Arizona Artist Residencies
A.I.R. Program
Superior, Arizona
Conveniently located within walking distance of a weekly farmer’s market, shops, parks, and more, the A.I.R. Program offers a collaborative space for artistic projects. Artists of all levels who are U.S. residents are invited to apply. Residents get perks like all-day access to the studio and materials. Accepted art forms include sculpture, land art, contemporary craft, socially engaged art, multidisciplinary art, installation, painting and murals, fiber arts, and performance. This program prioritizes sustainability-themed art and murals.

California Artist Residencies
Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency

Embrace the desert heat in an outdoor hot tub at the Highlands Artist Residency, where the Sonoran and Mojave deserts meet. Located near the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, this residency offers two different housing options with ironclad AC: a cottage next to the art studio, and a mesa-side cabin. In addition to a large studio space, Highlands maintains a book lab that’s stacked with creative inspiration. Artists at all stages of their careers who work in any medium can apply.

Colorado Artist Residencies
Anderson Ranch Arts Center Artists-in-Residence Program
Snowmass Village, Colorado
Located about eight miles west of Aspen, Anderson Ranch Arts Center’s Artists-in-Residence Program is designed to encourage emerging and established artists’ creative growth. This residency presents a valuable opportunity to enhance skills and gain meaningful experience by embracing risks. Venture into innovative projects and fresh ideas in ceramics, new media, photography, furniture design, woodworking, painting, drawing, printmaking, or sculpture, “free from everyday pressures.”

The Denver Art Museum Native Arts Artist-in-Residency Program
Denver, Colorado
The Denver Art Museum will select two artists for this residency that has previously hosted well-known artists such as Steven J. Yazzie (Diné/Pueblo of Laguna/European Ancestry) and Dylan McLaughlin (Diné). Open to established and emerging visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, and performance artists, this opportunity offers round-trip travel to the museum, a dedicated studio in the Indigenous Arts of North America galleries, and access to the museum’s collection. Applicants must be citizens or enrolled members of any federally or officially state-recognized tribe in the United States or Canada, or individuals certified as Indigenous artisans by an Indigenous tribe.

Escape the daily hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in a peaceful environment designed for “undisturbed experimentation and reflection.” Residents can enjoy a cozy facility surrounded by 160 acres in an undeveloped valley near Montello, in the northeastern corner of Nevada. Featuring a large shaded roof, the space is divided into two areas: one for general purposes and another for creative work. Artists are responsible for their own travel expenses and meals.

New Mexico Artist Residencies
New Mexico Arts Artist Residency
Alcalde, New Mexico
Participating artists reside in a striking 18th-century Territorial-style adobe home, provided by the Los Luceros Historic Site at the River House. Situated along the Old Spanish Trail, the fully furnished studio bedroom includes modern appliances. The 148-acre ranch fosters a connection to the area’s rich agricultural history. Artists are encouraged to interact with the land, culture, and extensive local historic archival materials at the historic sites, visitor center, and surrounding area.

Tamarind Institute Summer Workshop
Albuquerque, New Mexico
An excellent opportunity for artists, educators, and printers to practice and refine their knowledge and skills, The Tamarind Summer Workshop is an intensive course in lithography with a focus on the theory, chemistry, drawing techniques, materials, processing, and editioning of stone lithography. Lectures and demonstrations cover a wide variety of traditional and contemporary methods, processes, and techniques. Participants receive twenty-four-hour access to the studio and the ability to purchase materials at cost from Tamarind. The workshop is made possible with support from Getty through The Paper Project initiative.

Tamarind Institute Printer Training Program
Albuquerque, New Mexico
This is an intensive full-time certificate program that includes hands-on work in the print shop as well as courses on printmaking history and business operations. Students will learn lithographic theory, improve technical skills, and develop collaborative abilities. The Printer Training Program requires a full-time commitment, as it runs from August through May and demands sixty to seventy hours (or more) per week.

Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program
Roswell, New Mexico
Established in 1967 and known as the “Gift of Time”, this yearlong program’s large studio spaces allow its residents to thrive creatively, providing artists with the unique opportunity to concentrate on their work in a supportive, collegial environment. Artists-in-residence have the chance to hold a solo exhibition of their work at the Roswell Museum and to have an artwork purchased for the permanent collection of the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art.
