Ray Drew Gallery
Ulrich Niemeyer Mostly Sculpture
MARCH 5–APRIL 26
Reception March 5: 5–7pm
Ray Drew Gallery presents Ulrich Niemeyer—Mostly Sculpture Minimalist Art is unique in form, it is dignified in nature and delivers the viewer the virtue of simplicity. Minimalism is an American artistic movement of the 1960s, characterized by simple geometric forms devoid of representational content. Artists relied on industrial technologies and processes. They challenged traditional notions of craftsmanship, often using commercial materials.
Ulrich Niemeyer’s work was birthed out of this movement. He delivers a solid sense of sincerity and balance. In his work lies not the competency to overwhelm with addition of detail but the proficiency to captivate with simplicity. Niemeyer’s work speaks of the relationship between the object and the space it occupied. In this retrospective we follow his work on this journey. In the realm of artistic expression, where flamboyance and complexity often take over the viewer Niemeyer allows us to take a breath and exist in our own moment of self-possession.
