No Man’s Land Gallery is pleased to present works by Leah Hardy & Mark Ritchie.
Hardy’s current works are narrative and contemplative in nature, employing insect-inspired forms which become metaphors for the present human condition. These stories illustrate personal inquiry into social behavior, ethics, politics, and most recently climate concern. Fragmented, altered with mechanical elements or re-contextualized, these life forms reference our fascination with mortality and desire with the underlying yearning to connect, communicate, and gain insight. These works offer a simple starting point for conversation about our humanity and how to work together to affect change on a local, national, and universal level…all beginning with a shared sense of curiosity and wonder.
Ritchie’s most recent works are in drawing, printmaking, and artists books. An exploration of wild and domestic plants and animals and a consideration of their position, and his own, in Western North America as native, domestic, or “naturalized invasive” informs Ritchie’s works. Images are initiated in the field and developed in the studio.
Hardy and Ritchie hold BFA’s, University of Kansas, and MFA’s, Indiana University. Individually their works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. This dynamic duo maintains their studio practices in Abiquiu, New Mexico where they live and play with their menagerie of four-legged friends.
