Continuing her fascination with the dramatic rock formations of the American Southwest, JK Russ pieces together surreal scenes incorporating seductive female figures melded with spiders, snakes, birds and bats.
The exhibition contextualizes her hand-constructed collages through collaborations with artists Anthony Bondi and Matthew Couper, and in visual conversations with works by Rosalie Gwilliam, Fiona Pardington, Paul Rayner, and Curtis Joe Walker from the CouperRuss collection.
Originally from Aotearoa / New Zealand, JK Russ graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from MIT in Auckland in 2001. Her work has been shown at the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, Nevada Museum of Art, Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, and the Dowse Art Museum and Sarjeant Art Gallery in Aotearoa and is held in collections at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, W Las Vegas, Circa Resort & Casino and the John & Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art.
