Fritz Scholder: The Raw Immediacy and Chromatic Vibrations of Fritz Scholder’s Prints is a survey of the groundbreaking print practice of Fritz Scholder (Luiseño Tribe), whose bold color, expressive mark-making, and modernist vision transformed the representation of Indigenous people in twentieth-century American art. Featuring significant lithographs produced during his long collaboration with Tamarind Institute, the exhibition explores Scholder’s deconstruction of enduring American Indian stereotypes alongside works that reflect his interest in color, mortality, magic, and the expressive possibilities of printmaking. More than five decades after many of these prints were published, Scholder’s works continue to inform conversations about Indigenous identity, modern art, the American experience, and their intersection.
