This work reveals the unsettling parallels between the city of Albuquerque’s nuclear weapons legacy and the intimate violence of its streets—two forms of endemic destruction, one monumental and distant, the other immediate and personal. The bomb and the bullet are both products of this nation’s contradictions: symbols of power, fear, and survival, yet rendered invisible by economic and political interests—what I refer to as Chosen Blindness.
Solo exhibit at Remarque Print Workshop includes 16 monotype collages that explore the ‘hauntology of lost futures’ revealed by juxtaposing landscape photography of selected homicide sites and the nuclear weapons arsenal boundary in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This work includes an essay written by Dr. Myrriah Gomez, author of Nuclear Nuevo Mexico.
This exhibit is part of a larger series and publication ‘Topology of Violence’, co-curated by Fernanda Aranguez, editor of Publicar Como Practica, Santiago Chile.
