Powaqqatsi: Live with the Philip Glass Ensemble

Experience legendary filmmaker Godfrey Reggio’s Powaqqatsi on the big screen as the acclaimed Philip Glass Ensemble performs the soundtrack live. Five years after Reggio stunned audiences with his remarkable, non-narrative film Koyaanisqatsi, he again joined forces with composer Philip Glass for a second chapter: Powaqqatsi (1988) is the most intensely spiritual segment of Reggio’s philosophical and visually stunning Qatsi Trilogy.

This event follows last year’s screening of Koyaanisqatsi with a live performance by the Philip Glass Ensemble, also at the Lensic. Santa Fe-based experimental filmmaker Godfrey Reggio was an artist featured in the 12th SITE SANTA FE International: Once Within a Time, whose title derives from Reggio’s 2023 film. Reggio was honored last November as part of SITE SANTA FE’s Innovative Thinker Series. This performance is presented at the Lensic with support from SITE SANTA FE.

The Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE), founded in 1968 in New York City, is the principal performing group dedicated to the music of Philip Glass.
