In her latest solo show at Lapis Room, Albuquerque artist Beedallo contemplates the concept of “degenerate art,” the inequitable policing of culture and how to feel angry, but remain kind in an increasingly cruel world.
“Cruel people will rise, cruel people will fall. I don’t think I’m brave enough to facilitate the changes I wish to see in the world. The only power I can really claim against the cruel, is to offend their sensibilities. To do things the wrong way. If they think I’m disgusting, I’m going to be disgusting loudly. Neither me or my work will fall in line with a cruel person’s idea of how people should act, or look, or love.”
On view every day in the gallery June 26–July 27.
