JUANA ESTRADA HERNÁNDEZ: LOS CAMINOS DE LA VIDA, DESDE AQUI PARA ALLÁ

March 6, 5:30 pm7:00 pm MST

What does it mean to come home? This is the question posed by Mexican printmaker Juana Estrada Hernández’s upcoming show at Hecho a Mano, asking audiences to consider the complex ideas and emotions surrounding the concept of homecoming—especially when home isn’t something that can be readily returned to, or taken for granted.

Her second show at Hecho a Mano speaks directly to this theme. Inspired by the artist’s recent visit to her motherland of Zacatecas, Mexico after a twenty-two year absence, Estrada Hernández’s new show highlights and honors the idea of homecoming through a series of prints and ceramic pieces. “My solo exhibition at Hecho a Mano this spring shares my experience of reconnection, joy, and the complexity of what it means to come Home,” Estrada Hernández says. She depicts realistic and chimerical scenes from Zacatecas, as well as culturally significant places like Cerro de la Bufa, a hill that lies to the east of historic downtown Zacatecas that captured her imagination during her recent visit.
