Opening: Grace Mayer: Mend

Join us at the Vital Spaces Annex Gallery on the Midtown Campus for the opening reception of Grace Mayer’s solo exhibition, Mend.
Mend presents artwork by Grace Mayer, and brings together a curious collection of found and discarded materials that are transformed and woven into forms extending beyond the picture frame. Through these reclaimed and recycled elements, the work opens a space to reflect on agency, selfhood, and place. Resonant, multi-layered, and richly textured, the pieces hold the surprise, unpredictability, and intensity of lived experience.
Mend will be on view by appointment through September 25th.
Artist Bio:
Fuhgeddaboudit “Forget About It”
This New York phrase informed my upbringing and education. It conveys attitude while accepting diversions and disruption, often with sarcasm, and calls on resilience in moments of hardship so one can keep moving forward. Fuhgeddaboudit can also express intense surprise or unexpected jubilation, even awe, and allows for a space to transform experiences. My unlikely and surprising New York Art School Education is the embodiment of this phrase given my complicated family life. As an art educator and community organizer in Santa Fe, it continues to inform my creative practice and focus on uplifting marginalized identities.
