The Outpost Performance Space is proud to announce the 19th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival, September 4-28, featuring major touring artists, NEA Jazz Masters, and respected New Mexico-based jazz, international, Rhythm & Blues, and Latin music practitioners at concerts and events throughout Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos.
WEEK 1
Kicking off three weeks of music, art, films, and more are New Mexico’s own beloved vocalist Hillary Smith and saxophonist Glenn Kostur at the Outpost on Thursday, September 4, followed by the exciting Jimmy Bosch Salsa Masters on Friday, September 5, at the Albuquerque Museum—a partnership with the New Mexico Jazz Workshop.
WEEK 2
Brazilian vocalist Claudia Villela and accordionist Vitor Gonçalves perform at the Outpost on Thursday, September 11, and Friday, September 12 at 7 pm at Unit “B” by Chocolate Maven, Santa Fe.
In Albuquerque on Friday, September 12, see multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser Fred Frith at the Outpost. He will also perform at Entropy Gallery in Santa Fe on September 13 and 14. On Saturday, September 13, catch the free Blues Night on Civic Plaza, presented in partnership with the City of Albuquerque and featuring multi-Grammy-nominated blues vocalist Shemekia Copeland as well as The Pleasure Pilots and Russ Green.
WEEK 3
As in past years, the festival features a full weekend of events at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe and this year, the lineup includes Grammy award–winning pianist Billy Childs Quartet on Thursday, September 18; three-time Grammy award–winning guitarist John Scofield’s Combo 73 on Friday, September 19; NEA Jazz Master vocalist Dianne Reeves and her all-star quintet with Romero Lubambo (guitar), John Beasley (piano), Reuben Rogers (bass), and Terreon Gully (drums) on Saturday, September 20; and Passion for Bach & Coltrane with Imani Winds, Harlem Quartet, Alex Brown, Edward Perez, Neal Smith Trio, and A.B. Spellman on September 21. A.B Spellman will also read from his new book at Collected Works Bookstore on Saturday, September 20. Later in the festival line up at the Outpost, see Linda May Han Oh, David Sanchez, Nate Smith, Barry Altschul’s 3Dom Factor, and Carmen Lundy.

Other events include a Jazz Dinner at Dave’s Jazz Bistro in Santa Fe featuring vocalist Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim with the John Rangel Trio, an Inpost Artspace reception for the Jazz Festival art exhibition featuring work by Greg Tucker with poetry interludes by Larry Goodell, Jazz Movies at the Guild Cinema, and more!
