The Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery at Weber State University is pleased to present Permanence of Earth: Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture, a group exhibition featuring the innovative work of ten American artists: Eugene Ofori Agyei, Natalia Arbelaez, Andrea Keys Connell, Salvador Jimenez-Flores, Courtney Mattison, Matt Mitros, Jessica Sanders, Lydia Thompson, Erin Furimsky, and Linda Lopez.
This exhibition coincides with the 59th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). Formation, the theme of the conference, invites us to dig deep into the historical and cultural significance of ceramics worldwide. Read more about the conference here.
NCECA is a dynamic nonprofit organization that engages and sustains a community for ceramic art, teaching, and learning. In addition to deepening knowledge within the field, NCECA expands it by working to cultivate the next generation of ceramic artists and enthusiasts through programming that affects professional artists, K-12 schools, community centers, universities, museums, galleries, businesses, organizations, collectors and enthusiasts of ceramic art. NCECA cultivates and sustains networks for reflective and creative practice through an annual conference, special-interest symposia, and national and regional exhibitions. NCECA’s annual conference features dozens of presenters, demonstrations, networking opportunities, and exhibitions over three and a half days in a different U.S. city each spring.
Continuous support from the Dr. Ezekiel R. and Edna Wattis Dumke Foundation, Weber County RAMP, Ogden City Arts, the Austad Endowment for Visual Arts, and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums provides these opportunities to the community for free.
