Elana Herzog: Global Floral

Experience Elana Herzog’s Global Floral at Artpace this Fall, a monumental installation that stretches diagonally across the gallery, linking the east wall to a central column. One side layers wallpaper and textiles in varied colors and patterns, evoking the intimacy of domestic space, while the reverse reveals a massive, stark geometric plane. Simultaneously decorative and architectural, the wall disrupts expectations, creating a space where mural and sculpture coexist.

Site-responsive and built piece by piece during her Artpace residency, the installation reshapes the gallery’s architecture and invites viewers to navigate the space intuitively. Textiles form the conceptual backbone of the exhibition, carrying histories of domestic life, labor, migration, and cultural exchange. Clashing fabrics and evolving patterns mirror transformations in design and the global fabric industry, connecting personal memory to industrial production.

Monumental yet intimate, structural yet decorative, Global Floral envelops viewers and makes perception participatory. What you see depends on your position within the space.
