Studio light | space presents Tools for eating the moon
with artist Beverly Fisher.
The installation brings together paper, water, stone, and
salt: a suspended stone, a salt lick, water held in stone,
paper, placed in relation to light and architecture here in
the Sonoran desert.
The elements speak to the hand, time, and space,
pushing and pulling between two and three dimensions.
Each object sounds the room it is placed in, a call and
response of weight with the architecture that holds it.
The underlying motivation to making the work has always
been the desire to make art that is quiet, in the sense
that it reveals itself slowly over time. Using a formal
language that places the viewer in familiar territory, the
work does not depict directly but rather traces a vital,
definitive gesture suggested by nature, triggering a state
of reverie and stillness.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Beverly Fisher is an artist and curator who brings a
unique perspective, having lived in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania, where agrarian architecture and land
informed her aesthetic. Her studio practice moves
between drawing, sculpture, and installation. She has an
MFA from Tyler School of Art, Philadelpia, PA. Her work
has been exhibited nationally, including at the Santa Fe
Art Institute, the NYC Art on Paper Fair, the Aspen Art
Fair, Anderson Ranch Art Center in Colorado, and the
Bachechi Open Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as
well as in private collections.
