On view:
December 5, 2025–January 3, 2026
Opening reception:
Friday, December 5, 5:00-8:00 pm

The Mad Hatter Gallery’s December exhibit, Adornment, showcases more than sixty one-of-a-kind wearable works of art, created specifically for the exhibit by the members of the Las Cruces Metals Guild.

“With this exhibit, there can be no doubt that jewelry making is a form of art,” said Penny Peace, director and curator of The Mad Hatter Gallery. “Similar to painting, it takes conceptualization, creativity, and skill. It also has a unique transformative relationship to the the bodies its wearers.”

The opening reception will include a fashion show featuring clothing designed by NMSU student Aidan Sever and modeled by local artists. Aidan Sever is a fashion student at New Mexico State University and a costume designer for film and TV. This year he led NMSU Fashion Club’s annual sustainable fashion show.

The Las Cruces Metals Guild, founded in 2022, is dedicated to connecting metalsmiths in southwestern New Mexico through networking opportunities, workshops, lectures, and other activities.

During December, the gallery will host jewelry pop-ups on December 6 and December 20, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

Located at 221 N. Main St., Suite C, in the heart of downtown Las Cruces, NM, The Mad Hatter Gallery focuses exclusively on contemporary art and is dedicated to artistic and creative freedom. The gallery is open Wed.-Fri., 11am-5pm, Sat., 10am-2pm, with extended hours on First Fridays and for other events. Private viewings are also welcomed.
