On view: November 13–December 13, 2025
Opening reception: Thursday, November 13, 5:00-8:00 pm
Unchained.Art Contemporary Gallery expands its programming with the launch of a new capsule format — Artist in Focus — created to spotlight singular artistic voices in dialogue with the gallery’s broader program. The first capsule features Erik Neimeijer, a Dutch painter and musician whose vibrant, mid-to-large-scale works pulse with rhythm, energy, and unapologetic color.
Neimeijer’s world is populated by gamblers, bulls, lovers, musicians, and dreamers — figures rendered in quick, expressive strokes that bridge his dual passions for art and music. A guitarist and singer with the Dutch band Bökkers, he brings the same instinctive tempo to painting.
“I paint like I play,” he says. “Fast, loud, and with love. My paintings are about the things that make life worth living — the chaos, the color, and the beat that keeps it all going.”
A self-taught artist, Neimeijer began exhibiting in 2017 and has since shown at the Herman Brood Museum in the Netherlands, DAC Concepts Gallery in Greece, Red Dot Miami, and galleries in Paris, London, Madrid, and New York. His work carries a raw immediacy and sense of joy that transcends geography or genre.
For this Austin exhibition, Unchained.Art’s downtown space becomes a stage narrative play. The paintings feel less like scenes than like songs — visual compositions alive with motion and personality.
A four-week showcase offering close encounters with artists whose practices resonate with authenticity, individuality, and heart.
