The Theatre Instructor at NMSA is responsible for teaching high school students foundational and advanced skills in acting, performance, and theatre studies within a pre-professional arts environment. This role supports student growth through a rigorous curriculum emphasizing technique, creativity, and collaboration.
The primary responsibility of arts instructors is education. The role extends beyond simply sharing artistic techniques; instructors are expected to support student learning, growth, and development in a structured learning environment, which includes adhering to a curriculum, creating lesson plans, assessing progress, meeting diverse learning needs, and helping students build transferable skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and discipline. Arts improve outcomes for all students if its impact is measured by the learning and not just how well they perform artistically.
Organization Mission
The New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) provides access to a rigorous mastery arts and academic high school education for youth with passion and aptitude in the arts, leading to post-secondary learning, careers in the arts, and lives that contribute to society.
