Russell “Catdaddy” Gillespie and Chris Reynolds: Twin Cat Flux
On view: October 11–October 31, 2025
Opening reception: Saturday, October 11, 2025
October seems to attract the unusual and The Gallery at 40 Main is summoning two artists gushing with style.
Filling our main gallery is the local force known as Catdaddy, a gritty staple of Bisbee’s multi-layered community. Both painter and blues band leader, Russell “Catdaddy” Gillespie has exhibited constantly varying works for more than two decades, the common thread being a distortion of reality, and his new pieces will showcase what Gillespie is feeling amid his battle with a serious mold invasion. Routine and predictability are not in his surrealist nature, nor does he place great emphasis on what the viewer chooses to perceive.
The odds of two Cats meeting in October must be high, because Chris Reynolds (he runs as Cathead and does love cats) is accompanying Catdaddy in the warped dimension that is 40 Main’s intimate gallery. A San Diego native who dove headfirst into Bisbee’s scene after relocating from Dayton, Reynolds mixes media and switches styles mid-design to produce expressionism with a graffiti edge and spiritual undertones. This second Cat possesses a lifetime of art-fueled experiences due to his involvement with the Fluxus movement and a “Cat Army” mailer campaign, while his love of science fiction and memes bleeds into the exhibit.
Despite the pervasive influence of Fluxus’s anti-art mentality, Reynolds maintains knowledge of traditional art history and gathered much inspiration from what “some people” would call “high art.”
Twin Cat Flux opens October 11th for 2nd Saturday’s Art Walk and ends with Catdaddy’s erotica twist starting Halloween night!
