Jamie Chase: Muse in the Landscape
On view: September 19–October 2, 2025
Opening reception: Friday, September 19, 5:00-7:00 pm
Jamie Chase’s paintings uplift the presence of landscape and figure. His work appears as if it was painted all at once yet one painting contains multitudes of study.
Born in Sacramento, CA, Jamie was observant and curious early on. His grandmother was an opera singer who noticed his gifts and encouraged private classes. He later set his sights on San Francisco, studying under Nathan Oliveira and attending the Academy of Art College and the San Francisco Art Institute. At age nineteen, Jamie decided to move to Europe to become drenched in the classical studies of art.
Falling in love with Matisse’s Joy of Life, Jamie Chase describes how enchanted he was by the integration of figure and background, forming a sense of oneness. He noted how a painting’s beauty could be soothing, allowing the viewer to feel safe, in order to feel deeper.
His confident color choices and connective strokes are reminiscent of his work in comic book illustration. Often choosing a color in the opposite tone, vibrance of color comes through in an energizing way. He states that he is careful to keep the two channels of art making separate. With his fine art paintings, he feels a responsibility to alchemize his best and lightest energy.
