Isabelle Du Toit: Requiem
On view: August 1–September 27, 2025
In Requiem, artists Isabelle Du Toit presents a deeply personal elegy for the suffering and loss that marks our time-honoring lives lost during COVID, war, violence, extinction, and displacement. Her intricate works use trees as vessels for exploring human cruelty, merging biology, natural science, and raw emotion. With detailed renderings of wounds, bones, fungi, and pinned insects, Du Toit invites viewers into an intimate reflection on death, grief, and the fragile beauty of life. This body of work acknowledges sorrow, both personal and collective, while urging us to consider the value of life and the sacrifices necessary to sustain it.
Du Toit will be in the Martin McDonald Hall Gallery.
