SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Solo Exhibition | Matt Magee | Elemental
DESCRIPTION:The work in this exhibition engages the concept of the elemental in both material and idea. Magee’s formal investigations respond to the spare architecture and light in the gallery and within the surfaces of the work itself. \nIn addition to paintings and prints\, the main gallery will feature an installation of sheets and shards of mica on panels. These works change with ambient light and the viewer’s position\, offering perceptual qualities in ways best experienced in person. \nABOUT THE ARTIST:\nMatt Magee is a painter\, sculptor\, and printmaker whose work explores the intersection of geometric abstraction\, language\, and personal iconography. He draws on personal history\, numerology\, and language to build forms that carry traces of travel and a lifetime of collecting. Repetition and sequencing give the compositions a meditative rhythm\, balancing warmth and rigor in his visual language. \nBorn in Paris in 1961\, Magee spent his early years moving between Tripoli\, London\, and Texas. His father\, a geologist and archaeologist\, took him on trips through the American Southwest\, where he began collecting small objects that would later inform his practice. As a young adult he worked on a seismic truck in Laredo\, Texas\, recording vibrations sent into the earth to determine underlying geologic formations. He later served as the chief photo archivist for the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation\, an experience that further shaped his way of looking and gathering.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Signal And Response
DESCRIPTION:RULE Gallery presents: Signal and Return\, two concurrent solo exhibitions featuring paintings by Joe Clower (1937–2024) and Polaroid works by the artist collaborative El Disco. Installed in adjacent galleries\, the exhibition explores the image as both instrument and event—simultaneously a signal transmitted outward and an encounter received in return. \nJoe Clower’s independent studio practice developed a visual language shaped by speculative architecture and idiosyncratic narrative. Working in watercolor and gouache\, Clower constructed scenes in which forms hover between assembly and invention. Drawing from classical scientific mechanisms\, comic-book imagery\, and a distinctly Western horizon\, his paintings compile improbable architectures and symbolic objects into systems of relation. Coils spiral around antennae\, forms extend atop plinths\, and structures appear poised as if awaiting transmission—suggesting environments where tension\, speculation\, and narrative coexist without assumed interpretation. \nIn parallel\, the exhibition presents a focused selection of Polaroids from El Disco’s expansive archive\, produced throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Inspired by observed phenomena\, El Disco formed in 1987 as a three-artist collaborative between Joe Clower\, Steve Thomsen\, and Michael Davey (Tennyson Woodbridge). More than documenting unusual objects in the sky\, El Disco’s Polaroids record the invisible tensions between belief\, environment\, and image\, blurring the line between witness and interpretation. The Polaroid process itself\, a chemistry of diffusion\, migration\, and time-released meaning\, echoes the shifting mystery of light and craft across Western horizons. \nTogether\, the two galleries trace an evolving alchemy of meaning and belief\, asking how both continue to reshape evidence long after the initial moment of exposure.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: PHANTOM LIMB
DESCRIPTION:Harman-Parrish Atelier is proud to present Phantom Limb\, an exhibition of sculpture and works on paper by Dallas artists Tabatha Trolli and Xxavier Edward Carter. On view from April 9\, 2026 through April 23\, 2026\, the exhibition brings together two dynamic bodies of expressive work united by a shared inquiry into the human body and the natural world. \nThe exhibition’s title and works evoke a simultaneous familiarity and distance—to the body\, to nature\, to form—expressed through material\, color\, and abstraction. Cycles of loss\, gain\, estrangement\, intimacy\, manufacture\, and regeneration converge in these works\, inviting viewers into a space where the physical and the phantom are held in careful tension.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception\, Mosaics: Into the Light
DESCRIPTION:Reception with the artist on Fri\, April 10th from 5pm-8pm. \nArtist Bio\nKristin Javier is perhaps an unlikely artist. Born in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky\, her childhood was shaped by life outdoors—hiking wooded hills\, racing barefoot through grass\, and searching creek beds for fossils alongside her five siblings. \nHer path led her to the University of New Mexico\, where she studied education and Spanish and Italian translation. Though she once felt rooted in the Land of Enchantment\, life eventually called her back East. After decades away\, she has returned to New Mexico\, completing a full-circle journey to the place that first inspired her. \nBetween 2017 and 2018\, while raising two daughters\, a life-altering brain infection forced her to rebuild her life step by step. During this difficult recovery\, she discovered the healing power of art. With support from family\, friends\, and a vibrant creative community\, she has committed to a daily mosaic practice for the past six years. A devoted student of the medium\, Kristin continues to explore what she has yet to understand\, guided by faith and the belief that every person carries a unique light. \nToday\, she divides her time between Northern New Mexico’s high desert and New York’s Hudson Valley\, weaving both landscapes into her work. \nArtist Statement\nI speak in dialects of brokenness and light; mosaic becomes a metaphor for restoration. My practice is a dialogue between vision\, hammer\, and stone\, rooted in ancient methods. \nEach tessera is shaped by hand using a carbide-tipped hammer and hardie. Set into tinted thinset\, every fragment stands as its own sculpture\, reflecting\, refracting\, or absorbing light. \nTrained in Ravenna\, Italy\, and Chicago\, my work explores the mystical and embodies resilience—each piece a step toward healing and light.

SUMMARY:Performance: Tarrion
DESCRIPTION:Keshet Dance Company New Works presents: Tarrion\, a collaboration between choreographer and Keshet Company Dancer Ana Lopes Aréchiga and Albuquerque-based multimedia composer Zachariah Julian. Tarrion was born from an intense two-week collaborative process during the 2025 Hear Here Festival at Keshet. Left feeling like there was more to explore\, the creators expanded into a full-length standalone work. \nSet on the dancers of Keshet Dance Company\, Tarrion is a visceral experience\, a visually and aurally exquisite evening-length contemporary dance work that explores concepts of humanity\, energy\, forces of nature\, and the essence/experience of inconclusiveness. Tarrion magnifies opportunities to evaluate our connection in and between bodies and spaces. \nJoin us in our idiosyncratic world of Tarrion.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Inheriting the Void
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Inheriting the Void\, a performance-installation and video essay. \nCome witness a speculative interaction between a bear and a ventriloquist that asks: On whose behalf do we speak? What is the relationship between memory and knowledge? And who or what speaks through our actions? \nLoosely based on my experience caring for my mother during her rapid onset of dementia\, as well as larger themes of the climate crisis and mental health\, Inheriting the Void invites audiences to scan a QR code and listen on their phones (with headphones) to an audiovisual story while standing at the base of Tumamoc Hill. \nThe video essay is approximately 15 minutes. Arrive any time between 7:30–8:15pm. Please bring a charged smartphone and headphones to access the video essay. \nCreated by artist and educator Geneva Foster Gluck. \nAs a place-based art/research project\, Inheriting the Void explores the connections between mental health and contemporaneous events of the climate crisis\, the rapid rise of energy and water-hungry AI data centers in the American West\, and global violence. \nThe project draws from the writing of Amitav Ghosh’s The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable to consider the intersection of supremacist and colonial perceptions of the environment and aggressive extraction in the borderlands; Karen Hao’s Empire of AI\, in which Hao writes that the delusion of AI as a tool for humanity “simply equates to educated people becoming ventriloquists for chatbots”.These texts\, alongside the use of bear dolls in dementia treatment—as memory tools and comforting childhood symbols—form a kind of constellation of the inverted logics that seem to drive these times of dementia\, derangement\, and delusion. \nThis work was made possible by a MOCA Tucson Night Bloom Award and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening\, Wild Hearts Gallery presents Bunny Bowen: We are in the Trees
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on April 11\, 1-3 pm to meet Bunny Bowen and talk about her show: We are in the Trees\, Exhibit runs from March 31–April 26. \nWe are in the Trees showcases Bunny Bowen’s lifelong passion for trees\, starting with the maple and dogwood forests of her childhood in the Shenandoah Valley. Since 1967\, she has lived among our western forests\, surrounded by aspen and juniper. This exhibition is inspired by her relationship with trees\, presenting works in wood\, fiber\, painting and clay. \nFor almost 50 years\, the CO2 Bunny has exhaled has been inhaled by the junipers on their land in the shadow of Sandia Mountain\, while she has inhaled the oxygen they exhale. Together they grew tissue: flesh and blood\, needles and heartwood. The wood she is carving and sanding contains a bit of her own body. Their shared existence is not just a metaphor\, but a physical reality. \n“I am in these trees\, as they are in me\, our bodies intertwined in a tangible bond.” \nThe artists’ reception will be celebrated with fellowship and refreshments on Saturday\, April 11\, 1-3 pm. The First Sunday ARTScrawl on April 5 will include a presentation of the steps involved in creating one of her juniper and clay hangings\, explaining how the clay piece is formed\, bisqued and glazed\, and how the rough juniper branches are sanded and shaped to complete the piece. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 15 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. SUMMARY:Book Launch: Native Genes
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the book launch and exhibition of Native Genes\, Summer 2025 by Ryle Yazzie. Yazzie is a Diné artist\, veteran\, and currently a graduate student at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Native Genes catalogs a pop-up art installation of used jeans sourced from the Navajo Reservation from local flea markets in Window Rock\, Shiprock\, Gallup and Yah-Ta-hey areas. As part of the work\, Yazzie took a series of self-portraits of himself wearing the jeans—sometimes too big and sometimes just right–and documents the stories of hardship and determination told through the fabrics’ wearing and natural patina. Putting the used jeans in conversation with himself and in the context of a high-art photo catalog\, the book asks the viewer to consider our obsession with authenticity\, along with the age-old question; what makes something the real deal\, or just a knockoff. \nNative Genes by Ryle Yazzie. Authentically American* before America. \nThe book launch is in conjunction with Yazzie’s MFA thesis at the Institute for American Indian Arts and will feature a gallery show exhibiting artworks derived from the book. Native Genes & Limited Edition Riso prints on display and for sale. \nFree tamales by Joe Romero and refreshments will be provided!

\nSet on the dancers of Keshet Dance Company\, Tarrion is a visceral experience\, a visually and aurally exquisite evening–length contemporary dance work that explores concepts of humanity\, energy\, forces of nature\, and the essence/experience of inconclusiveness. Tarrion magnifies opportunities to evaluate our connection in and between bodies and spaces. \nJoin us in our idiosyncratic world of Tarrion.
