SUMMARY:Opening: Joan Fenicle\, Painter: In the Spirit of Haiku
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on June 13\, 1-3 to pm meet Painter\, Joan Fenicle and talk about her show: In the Spirit of Haiku\, Exhibit runs from June 2-28. \nThe haiku in this exhibit are created in oil paint not words. Inspired by Joan’s decades of wandering the caminos and callejones of New Mexico and Colorado\, they are expressions of memorable personal experiences. \nJoan grew up a free-range child in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where her mother and grandmother had been born in the high mountain mining camps. She has called New Mexico home since the 1970s. She loves wandering back roads\, capturing villages and vistas in pixels and paint – always looking for the stories. An ancient tree\, a village chapel\, an old truck\, abandoned buildings or just a dramatic cloud formation catch her eye and become part of the image collection that holds negatives\, slides and digital images. Bits and pieces of various images may end up in the final painting. \n“A haiku is created from two ingredients: an experience and the expression of that experience in words after it has passed through the poet’s heart.” (from Haiku: A Poet’s Guide by Lee Gurga.) \nThe First Sunday ARTScrawl on June 7 will include a meet the artist segment 11 am to 1 pm as Joan shares some of the stories behind these paintings\, both discoveries and favorite places that have been revisited many times. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. Take a visual tour of monthly exhibits in the gallery at wildheartsgallery.com.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Roger Evans: Fun\, Fantasy and Frivolity
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on May 16\, 1–3 pm to meet Roger Evans and talk about his show: Fun\, Fantasy and Frivolity\, Exhibit runs from April 28–May 31\, 2026. \nFun\, Fantasy and Frivolity is pure unfiltered Roger Evans. While comical on the surface\, the works explore the connection between memory and experience—between reality and fantasy—ranging from the absurd to the familiar. They include outdoor sculptures\, paintings full of texture and color\, a mosaic\, a book and a collection of prints and drawings. They are a culmination of all that he has experienced in his life; his memories\, dreams and perceptions\, woven into narratives that are full of humor. \nRoger was already forty when he came to Placitas in the early 70s. He was not part of the hippy movement\, though he admits to being inspired by them. He purchased land in the forest off Tunnel Springs Road where he continues to live in a domed house—just seven hundred square feet of living space plus a two-hundred-foot loft for sleeping—tiled in mosaic with animal sculptures at every turn. One can’t help but marvel at his talent for remaining positive in an uncertain world—all while having the last laugh. \n“Someone asked\, What would you call this art? And I thought about that. I guess I would call it contemporary folk art.” \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by fourteen local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday–Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening\, Wild Hearts Gallery presents Bunny Bowen: We are in the Trees
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on April 11\, 1-3 pm to meet Bunny Bowen and talk about her show: We are in the Trees\, Exhibit runs from March 31–April 26. \nWe are in the Trees showcases Bunny Bowen’s lifelong passion for trees\, starting with the maple and dogwood forests of her childhood in the Shenandoah Valley. Since 1967\, she has lived among our western forests\, surrounded by aspen and juniper. This exhibition is inspired by her relationship with trees\, presenting works in wood\, fiber\, painting and clay. \nFor almost 50 years\, the CO2 Bunny has exhaled has been inhaled by the junipers on their land in the shadow of Sandia Mountain\, while she has inhaled the oxygen they exhale. Together they grew tissue: flesh and blood\, needles and heartwood. The wood she is carving and sanding contains a bit of her own body. Their shared existence is not just a metaphor\, but a physical reality. \n“I am in these trees\, as they are in me\, our bodies intertwined in a tangible bond.” \nThe artists’ reception will be celebrated with fellowship and refreshments on Saturday\, April 11\, 1-3 pm. The First Sunday ARTScrawl on April 5 will include a presentation of the steps involved in creating one of her juniper and clay hangings\, explaining how the clay piece is formed\, bisqued and glazed\, and how the rough juniper branches are sanded and shaped to complete the piece. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 15 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm.
