SUMMARY:Performance: The Wild Bloom: Spring Performance Series—Night 2
DESCRIPTION:The Wild Bloom is an immersive\, three-night event series that transforms Union Hall’s gallery into a dynamic stage for interdisciplinary\, boundary-pushing work. \nOn any given night you might discover a performance blending movement with poetry\, an interactive improv group\, or an unexpected\, comedic guided meditation. By inviting audiences into participatory\, socially engaged performances\, The Wild Bloom deepens connection to the arts in a space designed for creative experimentation and cultural dialogue. \nPurchase tickets for a single evening or upgrade to ticket packages for bigger savings! \nNight 2 Lineup—May 23 \nThe Natural World—A Multi-disciplinary Art Sharing: Hosted by the Japanese Arts Network (JA-NE) and curated by Courtney Ozaki-Durgin\, The Natural World invites artists from multiple backgrounds to reflect on May’s micro-seasons as indicated by the ancient Japanese ‘Kurashi no Kiyomi’ calendar which divides the year into twenty-four periods with seventy-two distinct seasons. Local friends of JA-NE will prepare individual responses to the natural world and the calendar’s assigned micro-seasons (frogs begin to sing\, worms emerge from earth\, bamboo shoots sprout) as we enter the Rikka (Beginning of Summer) period. The evening will include music (taiko\, banjo\, and more)\, video\, dance\, poetry\, and “real live worms.” This entertaining evening will celebrate creativity\, discovery\, and an appreciation for nature and the Earth’s gifts. \nContributing artists include: Courtney and Matthew Ozaki-Durgin\, Drew Austin\, James Brunt\, Gwendolyn Gussman\, and Elizabeth Kirchmeier. \nImage credit: Gwendolyn Gussman\, Photo by Martha With Photography \nThe Wild Bloom is generously supported by Meow Wolf Denver. Food and beverages are provided by Ratio Beerworks and Whole Foods Market.

SUMMARY:Performance: The Wild Bloom: Spring Performance Series—Night 1
\nNight 1 Lineup—May 16 (in no order)\nKevin Hoth—Corporate Corpus Body Scan Meditation: Kevin Hoth will guide participants through a present-focused body scan meditation. Attention will move methodically from the toes to the crown (which may require some deep cleaning). Along the way\, subtle obstructions—those that interfere with one’s capacity to function smoothly within established consumerist systems—may be observed and released. \nElle Hong & Josh Ware—10SHINS // LIMBSCAPE: A contact improvisation for two bodies that affirms/dissolves a subject’s boundaries\, both through riding/interrupting momentum and sensing self through contact with another. \nKenzie Sitterud—Post-it Note from Patriot: Kenzie will perform a patriotic flag-retiring ceremony\, drawing on their research of the Flag Code\, while engaging the audience with a syncopated Pledge of Allegiance and a National Anthem soundtrack. The performance will be a hyper-patriotic ceremony as commentary on who and what is defined by patriotism held in accordance with the flag code. \nThe Wild Bloom is generously supported by Meow Wolf Denver. Food and beverages are provided by Ratio Beerworks and Whole Foods Market. \nImage credit: Elle Hong and Josh Ware\, photo by From the Hip Photo.

SUMMARY:Performance: The Wild Bloom: Spring Performance Series—Night 3
DESCRIPTION:The Wild Bloom is an immersive\, three-night event series that transforms Union Hall’s gallery into a dynamic stage for interdisciplinary\, boundary-pushing work. \nOn any given night you might discover a performance blending movement with poetry\, an interactive improv group\, or an unexpected\, comedic guided meditation. The premise is simple but volatile: a live storyteller shares a vulnerable\, true-life tale—then our cast of veteran improvisers\, hearing it for the very first time\, spin the story into a one-of-a-kind performance. As a featured event in The Wild Bloom\, this special double-show features two of Colorado’s best storytellers. \nCast: Joanna Brown\, Samantha Mitchell\, Nick P Ross\, Jami Baker\, Connor Schuck\, Max Schwartz\, and special guest improvisors! \nThe Wild Bloom is generously supported by Meow Wolf Denver. Food and beverages are provided by Ratio Beerworks and Whole Foods Market.

SUMMARY:Concert\, Submerged in Sound: An Asé Aperture Listening Experience
DESCRIPTION:Submerged in Sound is a curated listening experience exploring the Afrofuturist lineage in music\, tracing a sonic path from early innovators to modern bass culture. \nLed by Darrien Williamson of Asé Aperture and creator of Dem Deya Sound featuring Detroit legend Sinistarr\, and hosted by Drexciya: Into the Deep curator Sierra Jeter\, this experience highlights rare and historically significant records and examines how bass\, sound system culture\, Black electronic music and Black musical futurism have shaped global music movements. We’ll also deep dive into records as historical artifacts\, each one a drop in the ocean of Afrofuturism. \nIn Black electronic music cultures and sound\, from house\, techno\, dub\, ghettotech\, footwork\, and other forms\, the dance floor functions as a sacred space. Historically\, Black communities have used dance and music as tools to process and heal trauma\, from slavery to systemic oppression. The dance floor becomes a site of embodied liberation\, allowing for psychological and spiritual restoration. \nThe central theme is sonic legacy—artists creating music to shape a better world for future generations. \nThe program combines: \n– HiFi vinyl listening experience on a handbuilt sound system\n– African diasporic storytelling within the Drexciya: Into the Deep exhibition at Union Hall\n– Expertise\, historical context\, lived experience and commentary from Sinistarr and Darrien Williamson\n– DJ sets by Sinisstarr and Scarien\n– Hosted by Sierra Jeter \nSeating is limited; RSVP in advance! \nTo learn more about Drexciya: Into the Deep visit UnionHallDenver.org/rough-gems-drexciya.
