SUMMARY:Jake Trujillo: Refrain
DESCRIPTION:Refrain: New Works from Jake Trujillo\nPlease join us October 2nd 5-7 PM for an opening reception at Sun & Dust located at 223 1/2 Canyon Road Santa Fe\, NM 87501. \nThis series of new paintings features Trujillo’s largest paintings made to date\, inviting the viewer to feel the Southwest’s landscapes surrounding presence in interior spaces. \nSanta Fe oil painter Jake Trujillo’s solo exhibition Refrain is concerned with observation of repetition. Trujillo’s new body of work is entirely composed of familiar Santa Fe vistas whose emphasis is on the passage of time and seasonality—airy Winter scenes sit alongside distant Summer thunderheads and Autumnal foreground passages in brown and orange. To pause and observe keenly the changes in the land is an exercise in communion and restraint\, and in this sense “refrain” refers not only to the musicality of repetition and theme\, but to taking a moment of stasis to see distinctions within the presupposed. SUMMARY:Preview Showing of ENIGMA: The Works of George "Skipper" Captain
DESCRIPTION:SUN & DUST invites you to join us on September 9nd from 5-8PM to view a curated collection of works by George “Skipper” Captain in the gallery showroom on Canyon Road in association with our show held at Relay on All Trades Road\, ENIGMA: (full show dates September 10-26). \nThese special selected works will be on view at SUN & DUST during the Canyon Road Summer Walk and will be available to view during regular gallery hours through September 30th 2026. \nENIGMA: The Work of George “Skipper” Captain\, is the first exhibition of a Santa Fe painter whose art practice of more than four decades was conducted thoroughly on his own terms. Working almost entirely outside public view\, Captain (b. 1945\, Manhattan\, NY; d. 2025\, Santa Fe\, NM)\, known to all as “Skipper\,” built a practice in unbound dry pigment on paper\, alongside charcoal drawing\, oil painting\, and material work incorporating ground soil\, dried grass\, and salvaged metal. He had no formal training. His education came from books and from exhibition catalogues carried back from New York in the 1970s. \nENIGMA presents more than 150 works across two locations\, SUN & DUST and RELAY\, the majority of which have never been shown. Captain showed publicly only once\, at LewAllen Galleries on Galisteo St.\, in the mid-’90’s\, where he sold multiple artworks\, but never showed publicly again. This is the first time his entire lifetime collection of work will be on display. \nGeorge “Skipper” Captain\n“Noise”\nPastel\, Charcoal\, Graphite On Paper\n30” x 22” Framed\n2022

SUMMARY:Opening: Put A Pin In It
DESCRIPTION:“Put A Pin In It”\n8.7.26-8.30.26\nA Pin sits at the intersection of purpose and play. Part adornment\, part fastener\, and so emblematic of the way that humans throughout time have taken useful\, everyday things and made them beautiful as well. \nPins and Brooches existed before many modern clothing fasteners\, and have been unearthed in archeological sites all over the world. Before zippers\, buttons or buckles\, pins were the most common way to hold clothing in place. Because humans have an innate sense of aesthetics\, and we signal meaning through objects\, invariably those pins also contain markers of societal standing\, such as rank\, status\, allegiance and the like. \nThis medium also allows us to say something without saying a word- since that is what personal style is all about. Pins are often overt as they shout out affiliations\, persuasion and a certain kind of belonging. They capture the zeitgeist of a time\, and can easily change with the spirit and weather of the moment. They signify loyalties\, politics\, interests\, protests\, or hobbies\, and show off a little extra about what is important to us\, or even how people should see us. A person’s style is communicated through materials\, silhouette\, color and texture\, and the pin is an accent that pulls it all together. \nFeaturing 31 Artists : \nFaye Marie Astra\nAlison Antelman\nSulo Bee\nJuan Carlos\nCaballero-Perez\nJolene Castañon\nSuyu Chen\nBen Cooke-Akaiwa\nSherry Cordova\nSusan Dunford\nLena Echelle\nLaura Fortune\nJill Baker Gower\nSandra Jo Hackbarth\nMeghan Korol\nAnnaliese Levaggi\nWill McConnell\nChristine Mighion\nJoão Oliveira\nSally Prangley\nKenna Roberts\nAlex Rudolph\nMiku Saeki\nLauren Selden\nEmily Spykman\nSydney Thompson\nOleh Tkachuk & Yasya Tsebruk\nIsa Della Valle\nGenevieve Williamson\nAgne Zaltauskaite \nImage Seen here Courtesy of\nSusan Dunford\n“The Big Barn”\nBrass
