SUMMARY:Opening Reception: MICHAEL SCOTT | Poems from the Fire
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 24\, 2026\, 5pm–7pm opening reception. Exhibition runs through May 23\, 2026. The artist will be in attendance. \nInspired by summer evenings in Maine sitting in front of a bonfire\, Michael Scott’s new body of small paintings and poems (framed together) are reflections on the brevity of our lives within the context of cosmological time. \n“Sitting before the flame I felt the heat of its breath like a blanket over me.\nIt asked\, ‘What are you made of? Now that you feel my warmth\,\nare you the same as the glowing log? The rock that holds the heat?’\nWhere do all things begin\, and will nature’s belongings return to their Origin?” \nThis poem\, written in ink below the image of the fire pit in front of the lake\, is the nugget of the intention behind these intimate works. Immediate and volatile\, Fire sits within the context of a northern landscape which is incomprehensibly ancient. Fire is the transient being—our human experience of time. The landscape\, a result of glacial and geological movements\, is cosmological time 4.56 billion years in the making. By assigning these meanings to the painting’s content\, the images and poetry ask viewers to consider how human experience fits within earth’s much longer rhythms. Contemplating one’s own life in this larger context can offer a transformational understanding; an affirmation of one’s significance and responsibility to the natural world we live within. \nEmail

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: MARK SPENCER | Melting Pot
DESCRIPTION:Melting Pot is a term originated by the British author Isreal Zangwill in his play of the same name to popularize the notion of many cultures blended together to emerge as now only American\, shiny and new; one under a common flag. Now this phrase\, used for decades to describe the macro culture of the U.S.\, is criticized for not valuing diversity\, not recognizing inherent power imbalances. Spencer’s art pushes beyond the limits of many becoming one in this traditional\, even simplified\, sense. Instead\, it suggests the many ARE already one. \n“I was in my late teens when I had the epiphany that all things in this world are connected.” says Spencer. “Our thoughts\, our physical beings\, our gods are all part of the same cosmic fabric.” \nSpencer says human nature is the act of contextualizing one’s life—to make sense and give meaning of one’s time on earth. Nature\, on the other hand\, is all life\, is existence in all its forms. Not that which is alive in the sense of an organic system\, but that which is alive as part of a cosmic system of consciousness. \nThis cosmic consciousness is the melting pot from\, and within\, which this artist draws his forms and dips his brush. The melting pot is the Oneness of it all. We are lucky to be reminded of this truth by those who can show us. Mark Spencer is one of those. \nEmail
