SUMMARY:CHASING TAIL: A Performance by Selby Sohn
DESCRIPTION:Developed during Sohn’s time as PRROBLEM press’s inaugural Artist in Residence in Santa Fe\, CHASING TAIL extends the Bay Area-based artist’s ongoing work across wearable sculpture\, performance\, movement\, and writing. Incorporating recorded text\, sapphic longing\, doubling\, and a long tail with a wand vibrator at the end\, the performance inhabits the strange social and emotional logic of Sohn’s practice—playful\, awkward\, unruly. \nSohn’s practice uses the body as both material and site\, bringing handmade objects and garments into unexpected physical relationships. \nSelby Sohn is a Bay Area artist who creates objects and actions on the brink of utility. They have exhibited nationally\, internationally\, and in outer space: their work is currently aboard NASA’s PACE-1 satellite orbiting Earth. Their work has also been presented at LACMA\, the de Young Museum\, di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art\, 500 Capp Street\, Poetic Research Bureau\, 2220 Arts\, and internationally in the UK\, France\, and Sweden. Sohn curates Your Mood Projects in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood.
