SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Cameo
DESCRIPTION:The University Art Museum is excited to present “Cameo”\, an interactive exhibition developed via collaboration between the NMSU Department of Art students and faculty\, the UAM\, and Portland-based visual artist Jamie Isenstein. The exhibition features a brand-new work by Isenstein\, “Still Life with Flowers” (2026)\, in her signature format: a sculptural performance showcasing parts of a living human body. \nA hand grips a bunch of flowers. Gleaming objects rest in a pool of light. A sheet of paper is crumpled by an invisible hand. Which of this is real? Which of this is fake? How can we trust what we see? These simple questions are at the root of art history and museums. And they are central to current debates about artificial intelligence and artificial general intelligence. This spring\, NMSU students and the University Art Museum’s broader community are invited to reflect on these ideas through an exhibition that playfully engages viewers as an essential part of the experience. “Cameo” opens March 27\, 2026 and will be on display through July 18\, 2026. \nEmail

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Jamie Isenstein
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the NMSU Department of Art\, the University Art Museum invites you to an Artist Talk with Jamie Isenstein\, March 26\, 2026 at 5:30pm on the Bleachers in Devasthali Hall. \nJamie Isenstein’s solo exhibition Cameo is on display in the UAM from March 27–July 18\, 2026. Isenstein’s artwork plays with the slippery distinctions between subject and object\, animate and inanimate\, fact and fiction\, artifice and nature\, life and death. Whether using sculpture\, performance\, painting\, video or photography\, central to Isenstein’s work is an examination of how we perceive and understand our world and ourselves. Isenstein has shown her work nationally and internationally\, including at The Whitney Museum of Art\, New York City\, The Hammer Museum\, Los Angeles\, Tate Liverpool\, UK\, PS1\, New York\, Palais de Tokyo\, Paris and ICA Chattanooga. She lives in Portland\, Oregon. \nThis program was made possible with support from The Southwest and Border Cultures Institute. \nEmail
