SUMMARY:Lydian Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Lydia Art Salon has shifted from being “just” a gallery to an intimate salon setting. Of course the emphasis is still on art. What has changed is how you experience art. We are fully embracing the concept of the slow art movement. One of the ways we would like to curate a culture surrounding art is providing a bookclub\, chosen by the artist Lydia is showcasing. This event submission aims to get that information out\, in hopes to build a community that interacts with the exhibition. The books chosen this exhibition is The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington & Dear Sarah Bernhardt by Françoise Sagan.\nThe Hearing Trumpet is a 1974 surrealist novel by British-born Mexican artist and writer Leonora Carrington\, whose artwork was part of the 2022 Venice Biennale called The Milk of Dreams\, the name itself being a quote from one of Carrington’s wild children’s books\, which she wrote and illustrated.\nThe second book chosen is Françoise Sagan Dear Sarah Bernhardt (French: Sarah Bernhardt\, le rire incassable\, 1988). Her Dear Sarah Bernhardt is a delicious and mischievous\, imaginary correspondence and biographical portrait of the legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt.

SUMMARY:Lydian Sunday Afternoon Movie
DESCRIPTION:Lydia Art Salon has shifted from being “just” a gallery to an intimate salon setting. Of course the emphasis is still on art. What has changed is how you experience art. We are fully embracing the concept of the slow art movement. One of the ways we would like to curate a culture surrounding art is providing a movie afternoon\, chosen by the artist Lydia is showcasing. This event submission aims to get that information out\, in hopes to build a community that interacts with the exhibition. The movie chosen this exhibition is The Gleaners and I (French: Les glaneurs et la glaneuse)\, 2000\, by Agnès Varda. An 1867 painting by Jean-François Millet inspired septuagenarian Nouvelle Vague and legendary documentarian Agnès Varda to cross the French countryside to videotape people who scavenge.

SUMMARY:Opening: Valerie Chaussonnet's DOZENS
DESCRIPTION:Lydia Art Salon’s newest exhibition showcases artist\, Valerie Chaussonnet.\nDOZENS originated from my curiosity about the persistence of the standard American measurement system and the resistance to the metric system. Slightly puzzled at first\, as a European native\, I have learned to function in standard in life and in my sculptural work in my adopted American homeland of the past forty years\, and to appreciate it.\nDOZENS is a playful exploration of twelve as a practical quantity existing and thriving within our now universal base-ten counting system. Twelve is cool! Not just as inches in the archaic-sounding “feet”; eggs\, roses\, hours and months come in dozens in France and everywhere else too. And 12 is “conveniently” divisible by 2\, 3\, 4\, and 6. There are therefore several elegant ways to display twelve items of a series on a wall or a table.\nDOZENS’s themes: Love and Nature. Flowers\, landscapes\, trees\, bodies of water. Language\, writing. French foods. Us\, humans\, as social beings and the fascinating bizarreness of our behaviors\, our origins\, evolutions and inventions. All themes that consistently inhabit my work since my beginnings as an artist.
