SUMMARY:Opening: Viewing the World Through a Different Lens by Scott Ernst
DESCRIPTION:As the owner of Southwest Scanning\, Scott Ernst documents heritage as well as contemporary buildings using several 3D Digital Documentation technologies which allow him to capture virtual replicas of structures and bring them back to the office. The typical goal is to use these models to generate as-built drawings for restoration\, adaptive reuse\, or engineering analysis. Creating these drawings involves working with the models in different software packages\, clipping them into segments to isolate particular areas in the models and view them in different ways. \nOver the years\, Scott has found that there is beauty to be found and and there are stories to be told about the history of the buildings within those scans. From incidental portraits and timelines of cultural changes\, deterioration and rebirth; to abstract washes of color\, this exhibit will show some of these hidden stories.

DESCRIPTION:SANTA FE\, NM — The Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF) is pleased to present Home Again\, a new exhibition of works by artist Jesse Blanchard exploring themes of belonging\, seasonal transition\, and local place through expressive architectural and landscape paintings. The exhibition opens at the Gallery at El Zaguán\, located at 545 Canyon Road\, on Friday\, August 28\, 2026\, and remains on view through September 19\, 2026. \nIn Home Again\, Blanchard draws clear visual parallels between his roots in Vermont and his deep-seated life in New Mexico. Through rich color palettes of blue\, ochre\, stone\, and seasonal foliage\, the collection captures the distinct rhythms of Santa Fe—from crisp autumn light and quiet winter mornings to the vibrant warmth of community gatherings in historic neighborhoods. \nHaving exhibited across the country and internationally since the late 1990s\, including regional representation at local Santa Fe galleries such as LewAllen Contemporary and Selby Fleetwood Gallery\, Blanchard brings a seasoned eye and fine-art background to El Zaguán. SUMMARY:Opening: Thunderbird Rising
DESCRIPTION:Historic Santa Fe Foundation presents Thunderbird Rising\, a group exhibition of artists from the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) co-curated by artist George Alexander. The exhibition will be on view at the Gallery at El Zaguán on Canyon Road\, July 31 through August 22\, 2026. \nThe selected works ground contemporary concepts in a range of physical materials\, creative processes\, and artistic disciplines. The collection spans traditional and modern mediums\, balancing painting\, drawing\, and illustration alongside sculpture and installation. \nThrough these diverse forms\, the makers look closely at complex modern realities\, cultural identities\, and ancestral knowledge. The conceptual depth of the exhibition focuses on storytelling\, cultural memory\, and varying approaches to intergenerational connection and healing. Other works confront modern challenges—such as global light pollution and the consequences of colonialism—while others honor contemporary design and tradition\, spirituality\, and philosophy. SUMMARY:Opening: Broom Room Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Throughout history\, every culture has gathered fiber together and swept. Brooms\, brushes\, and sweeping are an intimate part of our collective domestic history\, and Julia Tait Dickenson proudly creates her pieces as an extension of that time-honored tradition. \nHer work showcases pieces that are both recognizable in their original form and strikingly transformed into something entirely new. Julia delights in finding discarded objects and discovering innovative ways to create brooms and brushes\, seamlessly incorporating traditional processes with found objects that have been used and feel good in the hand. \nThis exhibition highlights her recent experimentation with abstract ideas\, challenging both her own creativity and traditional confines to create new\, unexpected broom structures. Through this process\, she beautifully captures and preserves the feeling of an object’s original use while breathing new life into it. \nJulia lived in Santa Fe in the late 1980s and ’90s\, making her living as a jeweler\, before returning from Vermont in 2021 as a fiber artist and broom maker under her studio name\, Thinair Goods. We were honored to have Julia as an artist-in-residence here at El Zaguán until 2025.
