DESCRIPTION:Archway Gallery is pleased to present SUPERMALEVICH: The Poetry of Place\, an exhibit featuring watercolors\, drawings\, and urban sketches by Maksim Koloskov—on view October 3 through November 5\, 2026. Koloskov\, working under the artistic identity SUPERMALEVICH\, transforms city streets\, architectural landmarks\, waterfronts\, and fleeting moments of life into poetic records of place. Attend the opening reception Saturday\, October 3\, 5 to 8 p.m.\, when guests can meet the artist and enjoy the artist’s talk starting at 6:30 p.m. \nTrained as an architect and internationally recognized as an architectural illustrator\, Archway artist Maksim Koloskov brings his unique perspective to the urban landscape—one that balances structure with emotion\, precision with spontaneity\, and observation with memory. His work invites viewers to slow down and rediscover the beauty hidden within familiar environments: The changing light on a downtown façade\, the quiet reflections of a harbor\, the rhythm of pedestrians moving through a city\, or the atmosphere of a distant street in Spain. Each work reflects a keen eye for atmosphere\, light\, and human connection\, transforming ordinary scenes into extraordinary visual experiences. \nSUPERMALEVICH: The Poetry of Place features a body of work that is both deeply personal and universally relatable—a visual journey that carries the viewer through cities\, landscapes\, and human experience. \nMost of the exhibit’s works are watercolors painted en plein air on the streets of Houston and Galveston or on his recent travels to Spain and Japan. A prolific sketcher\, Koloskov carries his sketchbook and pen at all times. “I always find a moment to sketch something that catches my eye\,” he comments.

SUMMARY:Act Two
DESCRIPTION:Archway Gallery is pleased to present Act Two\, an exhibit that brings together prints and tapestries by Archway Gallery artist Blaine Davis and monoprints by guest artist Charles Tanner—on view November 7 through December 3\, 2026. Attend the opening reception Saturday\, November 7\, 5 to 8 p.m.\, when guests can meet the artists and enjoy the artists’ talks starting at 6:30 p.m. \nThis is the second time their work has been shown together. The first was in an exhibit at the premier wine storage facility\, Nos Caves Vin\, in 2021. Hence the current exhibit’s title\, Act Two. \nDavis and Tanner have printed in the same studios for some 30 years—first at The Glassell School of Art\, where both men studied with Suzanne Manns and master printer Patrick Masterson\, then later at Burning Bones Press. \nAlthough they have never collaborated\, their work has some commonalities. Both begin by making an initial image more or less intuitively\, often using elements one might find in a collage. Davis makes this image as an etching\, which he then develops through multiple “states” during which the image might change a great deal. Tanner creates the initial image as a monochromatic monoprint\, which he develops by adding multiple layers of transparent colored inks. \n“While we don’t do collaborative pieces\,” say both Davis and Tanner\, “it’s nice to have someone else around to make suggestions and offer encouragement. Sometimes it’s just that one little nudge that takes a piece a couple of steps higher.”
