Core Contemporary presents Soliloquy, a solo art exhibition featuring iconic Las Vegas artist Anthony Bondi.
The exhibition will be an immersive multi-disciplinary experience of large-scale interactive sculptures created for Burning Man, photography, collages, and historical media archive showcasing the unique body of work created by Bondi throughout the past few decades. Many of these works have never before been seen by the public.
“Collage is an act of intrusion, a disruption of a first intended meaning of an image through changing its visual context. Collage occurs at the intersection of the collaged elements in the transition from element to element. Collage asserts the primacy of composition as the arbiter of the value of an object. An image or object has no essential meaning separate from the context in which it is set. Context is always subject to change,” shares Bondi. Continuing in that thought, he states, “We are accustomed to the heart of a place being a tangible thing such as a building or a public square. It may be that the architectural heart of Vegas is in the intersections between its tangible elements, in the steps between its enveloping environments. When we create a narrative in these points of transition, as we do, it is there where Vegas’ unique identity is most clear. It is in its intersections.”
Visitors to the exhibition will also see that Bondi applies these principles of collage to his sculpture-making. There is more to see than what appears at first glance within the installations in the gallery space. Sculptures will be visually “collaged” upon 2-dimensional collages to create unanticipated and surprising landscapes into which the viewers also insert themselves. So much of the importance of his work is how well it documents the incongruent nature of this architecturally-transient city (Las Vegas), as well as a similarly transient city in northern Nevada (Black Rock City).
The exhibition runs March 9th through May 12th, with an opening reception and visit with the artist on Thursday, March 9th, from 6-9 pm. There will also be a closing reception and artist’s talk on Friday, May 12th, from 6-9 pm.
