Fan Mail: Celebrating 10 Years of Art & Friendship

This special exhibition, on view in the La Quinta Gallery at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm in Albuquerque, New Mexico, honors Tamarind Master Printer Valpuri Remling’s first decade of collaborations through the words and work of the artists who have shared the press with her. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 6–7:30pm, and a public conversation between 2022 Frederick Hammersley Artist-in-Residence Maja Ruznic and Valpuri Remling will be held on Tuesday, July 1 at 5:30pm. An evening reception and toast to Valpuri with remarks from Tamarind and collaborating artists and a live litho demo will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 5:30–7:30pm.

Fan Mail gathers the personal reflections of artists who have worked alongside Valpuri over the past ten years, offering an intimate glimpse into the transformative nature of collaboration at the lithography press. Exhibiting artists share select prints made in partnership with Valpuri, accompanied by handwritten notes, drawings, and stories that speak to the vital role she has played in their creative process.

Artists describe Valpuri as a True North in the process of collaborative printmaking—one who can “make a constellation of promise, hope, and power across time” (Sonya Clark), and whose “profound understanding of any work” leaves a lasting and touching imprint (Henni Alftan). “Valpuri brings extraordinary dedication and skill to every collaboration,” says Tamarind Director Diana Gaston. “Even in the space of a two-week project she consistently internalizes the essence of what the artist is working towards and finds a way to capture their ideas with ink on paper. I think every artist she collaborates with comes away transformed by the experience…and a little bit in love with Valpuri.”
