2 BED 1 BATH is pleased to present Margins of the Midway, a solo exhibition of photographs, installations, and found images by interdisciplinary artist Alexandra Hulsey. Curated by Dallas-based artist and curator Ryan Semegran, Hulsey’s work calls attention to the moments overshadowed by the pageantry and spectacle of the Texas State Fair. The exhibition walks along the edges of the Fair, until it reaches moments that seem suspended in time. The State Fair is a tradition that turns 140 this year, and seasoned fair attendees like Hulsey begin to notice the cracks in the tile, the chipped paint. Drawn to the bizarre and discreet, the work is an employee on his smoke break, a drawer full of butterfly wings, polycerate sheep.
Alexandra Hulsey is a Dallas-based artist, writer, and curator whose practice explores the intersections of nature, personal identity, and communal experience within our social landscapes. Deeply rooted in Texas, she actively supports and nurtures the regional art scene while maintaining a practice in photography, writing, and new media. She received her BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art and has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at CICA Museum (South Korea), SFMoMA (San Francisco, CA), Black Box Gallery (Portland, OR), and Melanie Flood Projects (Portland, OR). Her writing has most recently appeared in Femme Art Review. In addition to her artistic work, Alexandra serves as Sr. Manager of Brand Strategy and Communications at Dallas Contemporary, where she curated Masahiro LaMarsh: Anticlastic in 2025.
Margins of the Midway will be on view by appointment through February 8th. Please email or DM us on Instagram to view after the opening date.
