SUMMARY:Summer Camp: 25th Anniversary Kidz 2 Camp Golf Classic
DESCRIPTION:Summer camp is an experience that we might take for granted\, but for disadvantaged youth in the Quad-Cities area\, attending summer camp is not possible due to financial constraints and limited availability. \nOur goal this year is to raise enough funds to send fifty boys and girls to the Salvation Army’s Camp Ponderosa\, located in Heber\, Arizona. The kids enjoy activities such as a climbing tower\, splash pad\, archery\, group games\, cabin life\, arts and crafts\, fun evening programs\, and much more. They will discover new friends\, experience nature\, build character\, and challenge themselves. \nPlease consider partnering with us by sponsoring a child\, making a cash donation\, or by donating items for our raffle or silent auction.

SUMMARY:Reception: Chad Avery's Bisbee Art Drop Zine Launch Party at Chimera 27
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for action. \nIn collaboration with Chimera 27 Gallery\, artist and writer Chad Avery is throwing a party on May’s 2nd Saturday Art Walk to launch a contemporary\, art-driven zine: The Bisbee Art Drop. \nThe Bisbee Art Drop will include wide-ranging news from the international to local\, offering theories\, reviews\, graphics and photography\, and in the process identifying trends and factors that will shape our future communities. Its mission: \n– Inform Bisbee’s sizable and passionate arts community – and arts appreciators from everywhere – of news and events beyond our town. \n– Connect and promote the arts community of Cochise County and the greater Southwest. \n– Predict emerging trends in the arts and society. \n– Open a new cultural window between Bisbee and the outside world that promotes Bisbee’s story\, image and future direction. \nThe Bisbee Art Drop Launch Party is a manifestation of the arts. Join us After 5\, May 9th\, as we attempt to mirror the Art Drop’s urgency and gather the community’s energy for new transformations. Both artists and non-artists are encouraged to attend and network. Local artists will provide texture to Chimera 27’s already full gallery with sculpture and installation\, while local performers will be featured throughout the night. Food and drink will be provided. And Issue #2 will be dropping. \nIt’s going down\, then we’re going up. \nExtra info: Instagram @chadaveryartist. \n(Image: Spray-painted poster by Chad Avery)

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Marc Baseman and Wes Mills | Selected Works
DESCRIPTION:Studio light | space presents selected works by Marc Baseman and Wes Mills\, artists whose practices have developed in conversation since their arrival in Taos in 1991. Both have sustained careers of considerable scope: Mills represented in major collections from MoMA to the Whitney\, Baseman exhibiting across the country from the Harwood Museum onward. This exhibition focuses on the particular intensity of their drawing practice. \nBaseman’s compositions\, many measuring just over three inches on each side\, achieve their power through precision. Working at miniature scale\, he manipulates negative space and layered horizons to create depth that rewards sustained attention. Mills brings parallel rigor to his investigations of geometric abstraction\, balancing systematic structure with the warmth of individual mark-making. \nBoth artists have chosen concentration over expansion\, intimacy over spectacle. For each\, drawing functions as a method of inquiry. Constraint generates meaning. Reduction clarifies form. The viewer’s sustained attention changes what the work becomes. \nThe drawings gathered here are products of time. Decades of looking and making cohere in works that demand careful consideration. In an era that privileges speed and scale\, these works offer an alternative: evidence of what happens when artists commit fully to the surface before them with rigor and care.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Inheriting the Void
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Inheriting the Void\, a performance-installation and video essay. \nCome witness a speculative interaction between a bear and a ventriloquist that asks: On whose behalf do we speak? What is the relationship between memory and knowledge? And who or what speaks through our actions? \nLoosely based on my experience caring for my mother during her rapid onset of dementia\, as well as larger themes of the climate crisis and mental health\, Inheriting the Void invites audiences to scan a QR code and listen on their phones (with headphones) to an audiovisual story while standing at the base of Tumamoc Hill. \nThe video essay is approximately 15 minutes. Arrive any time between 7:30–8:15pm. Please bring a charged smartphone and headphones to access the video essay. \nCreated by artist and educator Geneva Foster Gluck. \nAs a place-based art/research project\, Inheriting the Void explores the connections between mental health and contemporaneous events of the climate crisis\, the rapid rise of energy and water-hungry AI data centers in the American West\, and global violence. \nThe project draws from the writing of Amitav Ghosh’s The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable to consider the intersection of supremacist and colonial perceptions of the environment and aggressive extraction in the borderlands; Karen Hao’s Empire of AI\, in which Hao writes that the delusion of AI as a tool for humanity “simply equates to educated people becoming ventriloquists for chatbots”.These texts\, alongside the use of bear dolls in dementia treatment—as memory tools and comforting childhood symbols—form a kind of constellation of the inverted logics that seem to drive these times of dementia\, derangement\, and delusion. \nThis work was made possible by a MOCA Tucson Night Bloom Award and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Raices in Color: New Paintings by Alejandra Montano
DESCRIPTION:Faust Gallery is pleased to present Raíces en Color\, a new exhibition by Tucson-based artist Alejandra Montaño\, opening Thursday\, April 9 with a reception from 6 to 9 PM at the gallery in Old Town Scottsdale. The exhibition celebrates Montaño’s deeply personal visual language—one shaped by family history\, Mexican cultural traditions\, and the vibrant landscapes of the American Southwest. \nRaíces en Color—which translates to “Roots in Color”—explores identity\, memory\, and heritage through Montaño’s unmistakable use of bold color and expressive brushwork. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing and cultural heritage\, the artist creates paintings that are both intimate and exuberant\, weaving together symbols\, figures\, and scenes that reflect the rhythms of everyday life and the enduring influence of family and place. \n“I paint what I come from—my culture\, my family\, and the memories that stay with me\,” says Montaño. “It has always been part of my life. It’s how I make sense of things\, and how I keep my family’s legacy alive.”

SUMMARY:Curator Tour: Artistry Across Asia
DESCRIPTION:Join Colin Pearson\, Curator of Asian Arts\, for an intimate in-gallery tour exploring the exhibitions Flowers of Punjab and Splendors of East Asian Cloisonné. \nThe tour begins with Flowers of Punjab\, an exploration of the region’s rich material traditions with a focus on phulkari—a vibrant form of embroidery historically crafted by women across generations. Drawn from the Khanuja Family Collection\, these works highlight the artistry\, symbolism\, and communal practices that shaped Punjab’s textile heritage. \nThe conversation then moves to Splendors of East Asian Cloisonné\, showcasing the brilliance and technical mastery of enamel craftsmanship across China and Japan. Featuring a distinctive group of vessels from the Museum’s collection\, this exhibition traces the art form’s evolution from its Chinese roots to its expansion in Japan\, where artisans introduced new color palettes\, optical effects\, and innovative textures.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Through The Lens\, by Holly Wilson
DESCRIPTION:(Scottsdale\, AZ) Bonner David Galleries is pleased to announce Through the Lens\, a new exhibition by contemporary Indigenous artist Holly Wilson\, opening March 5 and on view through April 2 at the gallery in Scottsdale. The opening reception coincides with the annual Heard Museum Indian Market weekend and the Scottsdale Native Art Walk\, making it a vibrant moment for collectors and art lovers visiting the area. \nThe gallery will hold a special opening reception on Thursday\, March 5. Wilson will be on hand for the evening to meet with collectors\, discuss her work and provide insight into this new exhibition that includes works completed in bronze\, glass\, encaustic and paint. \nThrough the Lens explores how perspective and personal experience shape our understanding of the world. Drawing on the idea of multiple “lenses\,” from the literal lens of a camera to the metaphorical lens of human perception—Wilson invites viewers to reconsider how reality is formed\, interpreted\, and transformed. \n“From the lens of a camera to the lens of your eye\, we are constantly filtering what we see\,” Wilson explains. “Our experiences inform our perceptions\, creating our own version of reality. With this body of work\, I want to lift that veil for a moment—to open a space where viewers can glimpse possibilities across many realms\, both real and imagined.”
