SUMMARY:Artist Talks & Closing Reception: Route 66: A Deep Imagining
DESCRIPTION:Blue Sky NM and Harwood Art Center have partnered to present a special SURFACE: Emerging Artists of New Mexico Alumni Satellite Gallery—an ongoing collaboration supporting the continued practice\, visibility\, and viability of Harwood’s SURFACE alumni\, alongside a new curatorial fellowship inaugurally held by Jakia Fuller. \nJoin artists Christian Gallegos\, Ben Roe Jr.\, and Jen H. Doolittle for a conversation around Route 66: A Deep Imagining and the ideas\, questions\, and narratives informing their work. \nAs the centennial of Route 66 approaches\, the exhibition looks beyond the familiar mythology and nostalgia of the historic road to consider the stories that exist beneath\, alongside\, and beyond its well-traveled narrative. Through distinct explorations of place\, collective consciousness\, and lived experience\, the artists imagine the many realities that may have coincided with this historic passage and those continuing to unfold along its path. \nMoving between past\, present\, and possible futures\, the conversation will explore Route 66 as more than a road or cultural icon\, but as a layered landscape shaped by memory\, environment\, labor\, movement\, and the daily lives of those who have lived and worked along its route.

SUMMARY:Garrett T. Capps House Concert
DESCRIPTION:Garrett T. Capps\, of San Antonio\, Texas\, returns to Magdalena for his third performance here\, this time solo\, sans his band NASA Country. \nAll are welcome to join us on Sunday October 11\, 4 PM\, at kind of a small array’s new location\, 505 Spruce Street\, Magdalena\, New Mexico. \nSeating is limited\, $20 per person\, all of which goes to the artist. 210.473.9062 to reserve your seats. \nThere probably aren’t enough thick books and serious documentaries recognizing San Antonio as a musical epicenter. But even if there were\, they wouldn’t be nearly as much fun as Garrett T. Capps’ new album\, “I Still Love San Antone”. With all the heartfelt zaniness audiences have come to expect from the S.A.-based singer-songwriter\, the album pushes far beyond any novelty record format. Capps’ masterful work of offbeat regional storytelling incorporates fired-up country-rock and retro Tex-Mex instrumentation with a genuinely psychedelic worldview. \nCo-written with and produced by Texas D.I.Y. innovator Bill Baird\, 15 tracks capture an astonishingly concise cultural history of the Alamo City’s contemporary outsiders and oddities. Bottling The 210 both lyrically and sonically\, the album features performances by Lone Star legends Joe “King” Carrasco\, Santiago Jiménez Jr.\, Rosie Flores\, Augie Meyers\, and Butthole Surfers’ Paul Leary. Released on March 10\, I Still Love San Antone is indeed the MOST PSYCHEDELIC TEX-MEX ALBUM OF ALL TIME. \nCapps will be performing in his SoLo RoBoTiKo setup for this show. Get ready to PARTY! \nPhoto credit: Josh Huskin

SUMMARY:The Santa Fe Symphony: Schubert & The Bells
DESCRIPTION:October is the perfect time for music with spooky and gothic origins. The concert opens with Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony\, a piece that proves a ghost’s unfinished business can be romantic and strikingly dramatic. Next is Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre\, a tone poem depicting Death fiddling on Halloween as skeletons dance on their graves. To close the concert\, The Santa Fe Symphony Chorus\, under the direction of Carmen Flórez-Mansi\, and a trio of exceptional soloists join The Symphony to perform Rachmaninoff’s The Bells. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem\, this choral work brings the fabled bells—sleigh\, wedding\, alarm\, and finally funeral—to life.

SUMMARY:Performance: A Cloud Of Blossoms Scatter In The Wind Together
DESCRIPTION:Performed by Nadine Lollino and dancers with live music\, this performance responds to the poetry and metaphors around the shared moments of beauty and bittersweet awareness of impermanence in nature. When people gather to observe these fleeting moments\, a momentary poignant connection occurs\, dissolving barriers just as the air filled with scattering blossoms creates a disorienting\, dreamlike space where the boundary of sky and earth dissolves. \nMovementLab is a contemporary dance collective dedicated to experimentation\, collaboration\, and site-responsive performance\, creating works that engage architecture\, landscape and community.
