DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of performances and readings celebrating Native Visual Sovereignty: A Reader on Art and Performance. This anthology is the first to focus on performance and performativity in contemporary Native art. With 48 contributors\, it includes newly commissioned essays\, artist notes\, reprinted critical texts\, and oral history interviews\, highlighting the shift from visual to performative sovereignty. \nEditor Candice Hopkins (Citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation) will be joined by contributors Brandee Caoba\, Cannupa Hanska Luger\, Kent Monkman\, Jolene Rickard\, and Eric-Paul Riege for a series of performative readings. \nNative Visual Sovereignty is co-published by Dancing Foxes Press in association with the Center for Curatorial Studies\, Bard College\, Forge Project\, MacKenzie Art Gallery\, and SITE SANTA FE. Join Deb Slaney as we explore how Lovato’s life as a jeweler intersected with Route 66\, especially during his employment at Maisel’s Trading Post\, the Thunderbird Shop\, and other establishments in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. \nEvent takes place in the Library and Collections Building. DESCRIPTION:Build Your Confidence and Cultivate Your Love of Singing \nProgram Sponsors Stephen and Jane Hochberg \nConductor Joshua Habermann\, Artistic Director \nFirst produced by the Desert Chorale in 2016\, this special workshop draws participants ranging in age from eighth graders to octogenarians\, singing together under the direction of Joshua Habermann. This event is always open to singers of all backgrounds who will come together to sing selections spanning eras and genres of choral music. \nThe goal of the day is to cultivate and encourage a joy for singing\, and also nurture singers’ confidence and choral leadership skills to benefit ensembles in our community. \nRegistration and coffee hour\, featuring information on area vocal ensembles\, begins at 8:45 AM. The workshop begins at 9:30 AM and culminates in a showcase performance at 2:00 PM. This informal performance is free to attendees. Be sure to invite your friends and family! \nLight snacks and beverages will be provided by the Chorale. There will be a break for a bring-your-own brown bag lunch. Please bring your own additional snacks if you have specific dietary needs. \nIn addition to individual singers\, area choruses are invited to set-up informative tables to increase membership and awareness for attendees.
