SUMMARY:Richard Potter: Permutations
DESCRIPTION:Globe Fine Art is delighted to showcase new encaustic works of painter Richard Potter. A Santa Fe native currently living in Tucson\, Potter captures the beauty of moments in time with Permutations. \n“These works are an exploration of lived experience – a morning or afternoon walk\, shifting colors\, sounds\, scents; the rhythms of life. Observation blends with memory and imagination\, allowing direct experience and its recollection to coexist within the same space. We have the experience of living the moment combined with our memory of it. They live side by side in our being. These paintings organize such elements into structures of design where form\, color and field come together to create and recreate a space in time.” \n~ Richard Potter \nOpening: Wednesday July 1\, 5-8pm (During Canyon Road Summer Walk)\nExhibition: July 1 – July 29\nGallery hours: Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm\, Sunday 11am-5pm

SUMMARY:Zahra Marwan: Is There a Horse on Your Roof?
DESCRIPTION:“I find myself often in disbelief — at how beautiful life can be\, the opportunities that come my way\, at the darkness that ails my family and loved ones\, how I wish politics wouldn’t be so personal\,” says Kuwaiti-born\, Albuquerque-based artist\, author and illustrator Zahra Marwan. \nHer upcoming show negotiates this realm of disbelief. Its title—Is There a Horse on Your Roof?—comes from Maurice Sendak’s debut children’s picture book\, Kenny’s Window\, which tells the story of a young boy’s quest to find the magical garden he dreams about\, helped along the way by his toys in a blend of realism and imagination. To Marwan\, the book is a meditation on loneliness and love in a dream-like world. \nMarwan’s work is at once deeply personal\, populated by the people\, places and memories of her own life\, and universal\, inviting viewers to reflect on moments of beauty and connection in their own lives. It carries a profound sense of reverence for the fleeting instances of love and care that reconnect us with our humanity\, even in the darkest times. \n“What sustains me\, and continued to sustain me during the war (was it a war?) are loving relations\,” Marwan says. “The quiet moments with people. People whose hearts are in the right place. And the ocean of patience I maintain with social decorum living in a place actively inflicting harm on my home\, while unable to live in the place my family always belonged. Navigating grim politics between one nation to another\, I acclimate to beauty among the grief.”

SUMMARY:Opening: Dry Land
DESCRIPTION:The show is titled Dry Land\, not only as a reference to the nature of the medium itself\, but also to evoke an idea of safety and rest. “When sailors are out at sea they often are in search of dry land\,” Traer says. “I am not a sailor\, but over the past few years there seems to be a general sense that we are in fact lost at sea — and this show\, I am hoping\, provides some respite from that.” \nThe artists Traer has chosen to bring together for the show draw from diverse backgrounds and practices\, but share a sense of whimsy and tongue-in-cheek humor\, executing formidable structural feats in ways that appear effortless. Ceramic artist and architect Janny Baek creates cloudlike\, anthropomorphic structures that share a similar joyful and buoyant color palette as figurative ceramicist Sara Swink’s small-scale stoneware animal figures. Holly Curcio creates both narrative ceramic sculptures and comics\, and Lisa Smith and her works seem to exist in a similar world as ceramic sculptor Monica Van den Dool’s — both with a darker\, yet still whimsical bent. “Their storytelling is found in tones found in the natural world and their work seems to be sprouting from it\,” Traer observes. “The works for the most part are figurative and if they aren’t specifically figurative they are breathing and existing — each piece of work holds a story\, some more complex or obvious than others\, but they all ask to be viewed with the same care and attention.”

SUMMARY:Opening: Pard Morrison: Everlove
DESCRIPTION:CHARLOTTE JACKSON FINE ART presents\nPard Morrison: Everlove\nJuly 3 – August 1\, 2026\nOpening reception on Friday\, July 3 from 5-7 p.m.\n554 S. Guadalupe in the Railyard Art District. \nThe language of Pard Morrison’s painted sculptures\, whether the columns\, cubes\, or the stacked box wall piece included in this exhibition\, is a complex interplay of minimal elements. There is the architectural nature of these 3/16″ plate aluminum pieces\, precisely cut and welded into geometric volumes. There is the juxtaposition of this industrial fabrication with the fact that\, as the viewer notices on close inspection – the myriad colors of industrial Flouronar paint across the surface have been applied by hand. The marks of Morrison’s brushwork remain visible\, belying that veneer of industrial “perfection” that they may seem to have from a distance. The colors themselves are painted across the surfaces as if the sculpture was a canvas in elaborate patterns of shapes and bands and puzzle pieces. \nEach of these aspects of the work can be taken in turn\, but the magic truly happens when the viewer begins to take in the relationships between all these disparate aspects\, to see the whole. Everlove offers the viewer a chance to slow down. To see differently. To begin to learn a language made of color and shape\, of space and light. To feel the significance of the human hand amid a world of tech and noise. As Morrison says: “I believe that mark making is a form of prayer. My work is an accumulation of prayers.”

SUMMARY:Opening: Stories of the Southwest: New Work by Dave Newman
DESCRIPTION:Stories of the Southwest\, a new exhibition of mixed media works by artist Dave Newman\, opens at Faust Galleries on Friday\, July 10\, with a special reception from 5 to 7 pm at the gallery’s new location on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Marcy Street in the heart of downtown Santa Fe\, just off the historic Plaza. Newman works in mixed media and acrylic and his original constructions combine his love of American nostalgia and pop culture with iconic imagery of the American Southwest.“My body of work is shaped by landscapes and historic remnants of the American Southwest\,” says Newman. “Most of my inspiration comes from nature\, the dynamic skies found across the West\, weathered signs and rust.”Rust. It is of particular importance to Newman. It incapsulates everything he finds appealing about found objects and why they are a focus for his constructions. “I love rust.\,” says Newman. “The nostalgic appeal of mid-century Americana is woven into each piece\, evoking my memories from childhood in Anaheim\, California.”

SUMMARY:IFAM Insider Talk with Sonica Sarna of Project Thrive\, India
DESCRIPTION:Join Sonica Sarna for her talk “Crafts Meet Sustainability: Impact Reporting for Indigenous Artisan Communities.” Sonica leads Sonica Sarna Design and Project Thrive in India\, an award-winning ethical design & production company that engages vulnerable artisan communities\, regenerative farm-to-closet and organic textiles\, women’s empowerment programs & in-house Fair Trade-certified factory production to create high-fashion products in partnership with leading brands worldwide.\nThe answers to climate change\, environmental degradation and socio economic inequity already exist within indigenous artisan communities. For centuries\, these communities have worked in harmony with nature\, farming with the land\, dyeing with plants and minerals\, weaving with zero waste\, and building regenerative systems where nothing is discarded. Yet\, their voices are often missing from global sustainability conversations\, while machine-driven supply chains are celebrated as innovative. Today\, in the midst of a climate emergency\, indigenous wisdom is not just relevant\, it is urgent. Sonica’s work focuses on helping artisan communities measure and communicate this impact through scientific and social metrics\, so that indigenous knowledge is recognized\, respected\, and advanced.

SUMMARY:Opening: David Croxton\, Woodworker: The Art of Turning
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on July 11\, 1-3 pm to meet Woodworker\, David Croxton and talk about his show: The Art of Turning\, Exhibit runs from June 30 – August 2. \nThe Art of Turning will spotlight David Croxton’s Basket Illusion pieces\, one of his favorite techniques\, where a solid piece of wood is crafted to look like a woven basket. In addition\, the exhibit will include items from his Ancient Dwellings series as well as vessels of natural wood that need no embellishment due to their exceptional grain and color. \n“Turning wood is like magic; it begins when the lathe starts spinning and sharp tools send wood chips flying into the air like natural confetti. He has participated in multiple exhibits and art events in Placitas\, NM\, as well as the New Mexico State Fair where for the last three years his work has been awarded multiple First Place Ribbons and a Best of Show. He has been a member of the New Mexico Wood Turners since 2018 and a member of the American Association of Woodturners since 2023. \nThe First Sunday ARTScrawl on July 5 will include a demonstration by the artist of his Basketweave Illusion technique between 11 am and 1 pm. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm.
