SUMMARY:Mirror Shield Workshop and Public Activation
DESCRIPTION:“As artists\, we live on the periphery. But we are the mirrors. We are the reflective points that break through a barrier.” — Cannupa Hanska Luger\, L.A. Times \nInspired by Indian Theater: Native Performance\, Art\, and Self-Determination since 1969 exhibiting artist Cannupa Hanska Luger\, SITE SANTA FE and the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) are collaborating to host a hands-on Mirror Shield workshop and public activation. \nIn the workshop\, participants are invited to make a mirror shield\, reflect on themes of Indigenous sovereignty and self determination\, and collectively decide — and enact — an activation of the mirror shields in Santa Fe. \nAs part of an iterative resistance movement\, participants may at the conclusion of the workshop add their shields to Luger’s exhibition room at MoCNA — an action that collectively signals solidarity for the themes in which the shields are made. \n*Free to attend but RSVP required\, visit website to reserve your spot. Limited space.\n*Organized by SITE SANTA FE\, this event is held at IAIA MoCNA\, 108 Cathedral Place\, Santa Fe\, NM

SUMMARY:Crafty Action Society
DESCRIPTION:Mark art while making a difference! \nCome to Crafty Action Society\, a monthly series at CVA where we get creative while supporting local non-profits. This month we’ll focus on fashion with visible mending\, a creative approach to repairing clothing and bags with stitches\, patches\, and repairs intentionally left on display. It’s where the repair becomes a decoration and each stitch is a glorious sign of who you are\, what you love and where your clothes have been. Bring an article of clothing or choose something from our selection of previously loved clothes. All levels welcome and materials are provided\, along with snacks and beverages. \nCrafty Action Society is a way to bring people together to learn from local organizations working for social change and to do so through “craftivism“- using creative expression to cultivate awareness and spread their message. For July\, join us in crafting with the Art + Action Lab\, CVA’s high school internship program where artistic teens get an inside look at creative careers\, learning how they operate\, building relevant skills\, and connecting to a community of creative professionals. \nTickets are available on a sliding scale from $10 – $40. Pay what you can!
