SUMMARY:Conversation: Neal Ambrose-Smith\, Emmi Whitehorse & George Alexander
DESCRIPTION:A conversation on Jaune Quick-to-See Smith’s artistic community and influence will be held on Thurday\, April 2\, 5:30pm\, with Neal Ambrose-Smith\, Emmi Whitehorse\, and George Alexander\, moderated by University of New Mexico professor and author Subhankar Banerjee. \nBased in Santa Fe\, NM\, Neal Ambrose-Smith is a descendent of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation. A renowned painter\, sculptor\, Ambrose-Smith formerly served as professor and department chair at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Beginning in the 1990s\, Ambrose-Smith collaborated with his mother on several significant sculptures and exhibitions. \nBorn 1957 in Crownpoint\, NM\, Emmi Whitehorse is an enrolled member of Navajo Nation. Whitehorse received a BA with a Major in Painting from the University of New Mexico in 1980\, and an MA with a Major in Printmaking and a Minor in Art History in 1982. Whitehorse’s longstanding commitment to beauty and peace has its origins in the Navajo philosophy Hózhó\, which seeks to achieve a harmonious balance of life\, mind\, and body with nature. \nGeorge Alexander II (Aka. Ofuskie) is a Muskogee-Creek artist that blends surrealist symbolism with Indigenous values and a humanitarian outlook. His work inspires dialogues on unity\, compassion\, and the eternal pursuit of progress. By exploring themes such as time\, dreams\, landscape\, and identity\, he encourages viewers to reflect on their own roles in creating a more harmonious and equitable world. \nSubhankar Banerjee is a photographer\, writer\, curator and environmental humanities scholar. Subhankar serves as the founding director of the UNM Center for Environmental Arts & Humanities\, which he established with a grant from the Mellon Foundation\, and is currently working on four books and the companion exhibitions. He is serving as editor of the forthcoming book\, Coexistence: Biodiversity in New Mexico\, which will be accompanied by a statewide exhibition (UNM Press\, 2026).

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Dead Letter Office
DESCRIPTION:Join the Georgetown Art Center in welcoming artist Chris Ireland for an in-depth discussion about his Dead Letter Office exhibit. \n“Like undeliverable mail\, memories are often formed with an intended recipient or purpose that no longer exists. We remember people who are gone\, different versions of ourselves\, or places that may or may not still exist. The images remain\, capturing moments that feel familiar but unresolved\, like messages sent without knowing if they were ever received. The titles reference memories that influenced the images\, inviting viewers to question not only the subject itself\, but the ways their own perceptions shape what they see\,” Chris Ireland.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: RONALD DAVIS: The Polar Series
DESCRIPTION:CHARLOTTE JACKSON FINE ART presents\nRONALD DAVIS: The Polar Series\nMarch 6 – 31\, 2026\nOpening reception on Friday\, March 6 from 5-7 p.m.\nGallery Talk: “A Conversation\, Remembering Ron Davis\,” with guest panelists Ron Cooper\, Jim Grant\, and Gary Wong on Saturday\, March 7 from 2-4 p.m.\n554 S. Guadalupe in the Railyard Art District. \nCharlotte Jackson Fine Art is honored to present a selection of pieces from Ronald Davis’s final body of work\, The Polar Series\, including the very last painting that Davis completed\, Timer. \nThe Polar Series is the result of a return to painting by Davis beginning in June of 2021. At that point he had not painted on canvas for about 15 years\, focused instead primarily on his computer generated Pixel Dust works. Davis’s initial foray with a rectangular format quickly shifted when\, as he says\, “as I worked\, the desire to “find the center” became my mission.” He drew inspiration from a 1963 tondo\, Target\, which with its alternate-colored\, light and dark bullseye seemed an apt format to explore\, as he puts it\, the “opposite poles of light-dark\, black-white\, up-down. I mounted the circles on square backings tipped 45 degrees as diamonds\, to better define their objecthood….” \nThis move itself is a part of the complex interweaving of paradoxes that run through The Polar Series. These opposites interact\, war\, and at times resolve within each piece. And yet what these paintings do is to take that richness of conflict and irresolution and refine it. To unfold the convoluted not by solving it\, but by illuminating it.
