SUMMARY:Book Launch Party: Native Visual Sovereignty\, Readings + Performances
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of performances and readings celebrating Native Visual Sovereignty: A Reader on Art and Performance. This anthology is the first to focus on performance and performativity in contemporary Native art. With 48 contributors\, it includes newly commissioned essays\, artist notes\, reprinted critical texts\, and oral history interviews\, highlighting the shift from visual to performative sovereignty. \nEditor Candice Hopkins (Citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation) will be joined by contributors Brandee Caoba\, Cannupa Hanska Luger\, Kent Monkman\, Jolene Rickard\, and Eric-Paul Riege for a series of performative readings. \nNative Visual Sovereignty is co-published by Dancing Foxes Press in association with the Center for Curatorial Studies\, Bard College\, Forge Project\, MacKenzie Art Gallery\, and SITE SANTA FE.
