SUMMARY:Artist Performance: Erica Lord in Artifact Piece\, Revisited
DESCRIPTION:Erica Lord presents Artifact Piece\, Revisited\, an interpretation of James Luna’s influential performance Artifact Piece (1987). The work prompts critical reflection on the objectification and fetishization of Indigenous bodies and cultures in museums and the art world at large\, while foregrounding contemporary and gendered perspectives. \nThis presentation is the first performance of the work since Luna’s passing in 2018. It honors his significant impact on Indigenous performance art and continues the dialogue he began on representation\, sovereignty\, and self-determination.

DESCRIPTION:The Wild Bloom is an immersive\, three-night event series that transforms Union Hall’s gallery into a dynamic stage for interdisciplinary\, boundary-pushing work. \nOn any given night you might discover a performance blending movement with poetry\, an interactive improv group\, or an unexpected\, comedic guided meditation. By inviting audiences into participatory\, socially engaged performances\, The Wild Bloom deepens connection to the arts in a space designed for creative experimentation and cultural dialogue. \nPurchase tickets for a single evening or upgrade to ticket packages for bigger savings! \nNight 1 Lineup—May 16 (in no order)\nKevin Hoth—Corporate Corpus Body Scan Meditation: Kevin Hoth will guide participants through a present-focused body scan meditation. Attention will move methodically from the toes to the crown (which may require some deep cleaning). Along the way\, subtle obstructions—those that interfere with one’s capacity to function smoothly within established consumerist systems—may be observed and released. \nElle Hong & Josh Ware—10SHINS // LIMBSCAPE: A contact improvisation for two bodies that affirms/dissolves a subject’s boundaries\, both through riding/interrupting momentum and sensing self through contact with another. \nKenzie Sitterud—Post-it Note from Patriot: Kenzie will perform a patriotic flag-retiring ceremony\, drawing on their research of the Flag Code\, while engaging the audience with a syncopated Pledge of Allegiance and a National Anthem soundtrack. The performance will be a hyper-patriotic ceremony as commentary on who and what is defined by patriotism held in accordance with the flag code. \nThe Wild Bloom is generously supported by Meow Wolf Denver. Food and beverages are provided by Ratio Beerworks and Whole Foods Market. \nImage credit: Elle Hong and Josh Ware\, photo by From the Hip Photo.

SUMMARY:Performance: Dance Theatre of Harlem
DESCRIPTION:Dance Theatre of Harlem stands as a dynamic force in the ballet world\, captivating audiences both nationally and internationally. Their repertoire is a thrilling blend of treasured classics\, neoclassical masterpieces by George Balanchine and artistic director Robert Garland\, and cutting-edge contemporary works that embody founder Arthur Mitchell’s belief that ballet is for everyone. Through electrifying performances\, community engagement\, and arts education programs\, Dance Theatre of Harlem champions the power of the arts to inspire and empower. \nSince its founding in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook\, Dance Theatre of Harlem has been hailed as “one of ballet’s most exciting undertakings” (New York Times). Now celebrating over fifty-five years of excellence\, DTH has evolved into a globally renowned ballet company\, setting new standards in the performing arts and leaving an indelible mark on the world stage. Their extraordinary legacy continues to open doors for creative expression and artistic brilliance. \nEvent Sponsors: Gina Browning and Joe Illick in memory of Jinny Browning\nCatherine Oppenheimer

SUMMARY:Performance: MVJBS Monthly Gathering with Knight Life Jazz Experiment
DESCRIPTION:Knight Life Jazz Experiment\, a seven-piece jazz combo made up of Organ Mountain High School students\, will be the featured ensemble at the Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society’s April gathering. \nThe ensemble is led by Roman Cipriani\, a longtime Las Cruces music educator and frequent MVJBS performer. The jazz combo came to fruition in the fall of 2025 when a core group of musicians from OMHS’s Jazz Band 1 showed interest in expanding their jazz education. \n“All the students were eager to improve their skills in both jazz style and improvisation\,” Cipriani says. \nKnight Life musicians meet three times a week during their lunch hour and perform during MVJBS’s monthly jazz jam at Boba Café and Cabaret. April’s monthly gathering performance will be the ensemble’s first full concert on their own. \nMusicians include:\nDiego Gonzales\, alto saxophone\nNorah Talbot\, baritone saxophone\nLucas Montoya\, trombone\nJosue Ortega\, trombone\nEdward Remondini\, piano\nGavin Escandon\, bass guitar\nDeMario Medrano\, drum set

SUMMARY:Performance\, Entrapping Our Abundance: A Circus Production Exploring the Southwest's Climate Realities
DESCRIPTION:ENTRAPPING OUR ABUNDANCE is Wise Fool New Mexico’s original production debuting mid-April in Santa Fe. This powerful\, circus-driven performance explores the climate realities of the Southwest through aerial arts\, acrobatics\, and striking visual storytelling. Featuring a cast of professional circus artists and the return of our towering 20ft free-standing aerial truss\, the show brings gravity-defying performance into a story about the landscapes we call home. \nIn our 23+ years of operation\, we have experienced the impact of Social Circus as a powerful agent for social change\, to educate\, and to raise awareness. This circus production will act as a vehicle to communicate the expansiveness of the environmental disruption in the Southwest from massive wildfires\, water shortages\, and the greed for natural resources that continuously infringe on native lands. Be inspired by our stunning cast of aerial performers\, acrobats\, and jugglers as they travel across the beautiful Land of Enchantment and preserve its precious resources.
