SUMMARY:Opening Reception: PHANTOM LIMB
DESCRIPTION:Harman-Parrish Atelier is proud to present Phantom Limb\, an exhibition of sculpture and works on paper by Dallas artists Tabatha Trolli and Xxavier Edward Carter. On view from April 9\, 2026 through April 23\, 2026\, the exhibition brings together two dynamic bodies of expressive work united by a shared inquiry into the human body and the natural world. \nThe exhibition’s title and works evoke a simultaneous familiarity and distance—to the body\, to nature\, to form—expressed through material\, color\, and abstraction. Cycles of loss\, gain\, estrangement\, intimacy\, manufacture\, and regeneration converge in these works\, inviting viewers into a space where the physical and the phantom are held in careful tension.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception\, Mosaics: Into the Light
DESCRIPTION:Reception with the artist on Fri\, April 10th from 5pm-8pm. \nArtist Bio\nKristin Javier is perhaps an unlikely artist. Born in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky\, her childhood was shaped by life outdoors—hiking wooded hills\, racing barefoot through grass\, and searching creek beds for fossils alongside her five siblings. \nHer path led her to the University of New Mexico\, where she studied education and Spanish and Italian translation. Though she once felt rooted in the Land of Enchantment\, life eventually called her back East. After decades away\, she has returned to New Mexico\, completing a full-circle journey to the place that first inspired her. \nBetween 2017 and 2018\, while raising two daughters\, a life-altering brain infection forced her to rebuild her life step by step. During this difficult recovery\, she discovered the healing power of art. With support from family\, friends\, and a vibrant creative community\, she has committed to a daily mosaic practice for the past six years. A devoted student of the medium\, Kristin continues to explore what she has yet to understand\, guided by faith and the belief that every person carries a unique light. \nToday\, she divides her time between Northern New Mexico’s high desert and New York’s Hudson Valley\, weaving both landscapes into her work. \nArtist Statement\nI speak in dialects of brokenness and light; mosaic becomes a metaphor for restoration. My practice is a dialogue between vision\, hammer\, and stone\, rooted in ancient methods. \nEach tessera is shaped by hand using a carbide-tipped hammer and hardie. Set into tinted thinset\, every fragment stands as its own sculpture\, reflecting\, refracting\, or absorbing light. \nTrained in Ravenna\, Italy\, and Chicago\, my work explores the mystical and embodies resilience—each piece a step toward healing and light.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Shane Tolbert\, Town & Country
DESCRIPTION:In Town & Country\, Shane Tolbert presents a new body of paintings and collages that unfold through layering\, interruption\, and revision. The works are built from poured acrylic\, collage fragments\, masking\, and drawn interventions. These elements accumulate decisions over time. Earlier gestures remain partially visible beneath later ones. Each surface carries the sediment of its own making. \nTolbert’s use of plastic sheeting introduces moments of decollage. Poured paint is first cast onto plastic\, then lifted and transferred onto the canvas. There\, it behaves like a displaced skin. These passages interrupt the surface and preserve earlier states. This creates a tension between adhesion and removal\, image and residue. \nPainter’s tape is applied\, painted over\, removed\, and sometimes retraced. It moves through the paintings like a temporary scaffold. These linear traces often appear late in the process. They map structure across fields of volatile color and gesture. What begins as improvisation gradually suggests architecture. Then\, it loosens again into atmosphere and movement. \nThe title Town & Country hints at the shifting boundary between the constructed and the open. In Tolbert’s work\, diagrammatic lines drift across painterly weather. Blocks of color behave like structures one moment and eroding terrain the next. \nA parallel practice of walking informs the work. Fragments encountered along the way—packaging\, images\, and remnants of daily life—enter the collages and sometimes the paintings. These found elements and photographs quietly anchor the work in lived experience. Observation and movement through the world become part of the studio process. \nTolbert’s paintings do not depict that world. They operate with the same logic—layered\, provisional\, and constantly revised. Meaning accumulates through time rather than arriving all at once.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Inheriting the Void
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Inheriting the Void\, a performance-installation and video essay. \nCome witness a speculative interaction between a bear and a ventriloquist that asks: On whose behalf do we speak? What is the relationship between memory and knowledge? And who or what speaks through our actions? \nLoosely based on my experience caring for my mother during her rapid onset of dementia\, as well as larger themes of the climate crisis and mental health\, Inheriting the Void invites audiences to scan a QR code and listen on their phones (with headphones) to an audiovisual story while standing at the base of Tumamoc Hill. \nThe video essay is approximately 15 minutes. Arrive any time between 7:30–8:15pm. Please bring a charged smartphone and headphones to access the video essay. \nCreated by artist and educator Geneva Foster Gluck. \nAs a place-based art/research project\, Inheriting the Void explores the connections between mental health and contemporaneous events of the climate crisis\, the rapid rise of energy and water-hungry AI data centers in the American West\, and global violence. \nThe project draws from the writing of Amitav Ghosh’s The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable to consider the intersection of supremacist and colonial perceptions of the environment and aggressive extraction in the borderlands; Karen Hao’s Empire of AI\, in which Hao writes that the delusion of AI as a tool for humanity “simply equates to educated people becoming ventriloquists for chatbots”.These texts\, alongside the use of bear dolls in dementia treatment—as memory tools and comforting childhood symbols—form a kind of constellation of the inverted logics that seem to drive these times of dementia\, derangement\, and delusion. \nThis work was made possible by a MOCA Tucson Night Bloom Award and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening\, Wild Hearts Gallery presents Bunny Bowen: We are in the Trees
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on April 11\, 1-3 pm to meet Bunny Bowen and talk about her show: We are in the Trees\, Exhibit runs from March 31–April 26. \nWe are in the Trees showcases Bunny Bowen’s lifelong passion for trees\, starting with the maple and dogwood forests of her childhood in the Shenandoah Valley. Since 1967\, she has lived among our western forests\, surrounded by aspen and juniper. This exhibition is inspired by her relationship with trees\, presenting works in wood\, fiber\, painting and clay. \nFor almost 50 years\, the CO2 Bunny has exhaled has been inhaled by the junipers on their land in the shadow of Sandia Mountain\, while she has inhaled the oxygen they exhale. Together they grew tissue: flesh and blood\, needles and heartwood. The wood she is carving and sanding contains a bit of her own body. Their shared existence is not just a metaphor\, but a physical reality. \n“I am in these trees\, as they are in me\, our bodies intertwined in a tangible bond.” \nThe artists’ reception will be celebrated with fellowship and refreshments on Saturday\, April 11\, 1-3 pm. The First Sunday ARTScrawl on April 5 will include a presentation of the steps involved in creating one of her juniper and clay hangings\, explaining how the clay piece is formed\, bisqued and glazed\, and how the rough juniper branches are sanded and shaped to complete the piece. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 15 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Marc Baseman and Wes Mills | Selected Works
DESCRIPTION:Studio light | space presents selected works by Marc Baseman and Wes Mills\, artists whose practices have developed in conversation since their arrival in Taos in 1991. Both have sustained careers of considerable scope: Mills represented in major collections from MoMA to the Whitney\, Baseman exhibiting across the country from the Harwood Museum onward. This exhibition focuses on the particular intensity of their drawing practice. \nBaseman’s compositions\, many measuring just over three inches on each side\, achieve their power through precision. Working at miniature scale\, he manipulates negative space and layered horizons to create depth that rewards sustained attention. Mills brings parallel rigor to his investigations of geometric abstraction\, balancing systematic structure with the warmth of individual mark-making. \nBoth artists have chosen concentration over expansion\, intimacy over spectacle. For each\, drawing functions as a method of inquiry. Constraint generates meaning. Reduction clarifies form. The viewer’s sustained attention changes what the work becomes. \nThe drawings gathered here are products of time. Decades of looking and making cohere in works that demand careful consideration. In an era that privileges speed and scale\, these works offer an alternative: evidence of what happens when artists commit fully to the surface before them with rigor and care.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Native Genes
DESCRIPTION:Ryle Yazzie is a Dine artist\, a veteran\, and currently a graduate student at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Native Genes\, Summer 2025 catalogs a pop-up art installation of used jeans sourced from the Navajo Reservation and from local flea markets in Window Rock\, Shiprock\, Gallup and Yah-Ta-hey areas. As part of the work\, Yazzie took a series of self-portraits of himself wearing the jeans—sometimes too big and sometimes just right—and documents the stories of hardship and determination told through the fabrics wearing and natural patina. Putting the used jeans in conversation with himself and in the context of a high-art photo catalog\, the book asks the viewer to consider our obsession with authenticity\, along with the age-old question; what makes something the real deal\, or just a knockoff. This catalog and the installation was inspired by James Luna’s performance\, Take a picture with a Real Indian. \nNative Genes by Ryle Yazzie. Authentically American* before America. \nThe book launch is in conjunction with Yazzie’s MFA thesis at the Institute for American Indian Arts and will feature a gallery show exhibiting artworks derived from the book. Native Genes & limited edition Riso prints on display and for sale. $35.00 per book. \nFree tamales and refreshments will be provided.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening\, Jared Weiss: "“We Don't Know That We Know Where We Are\, We Don't Know That We Know Where We’re Going”
DESCRIPTION:Ellsworth Gallery in collaboration with Curate Santa Fe presents\,\nJared Weiss\, “We Don’t Know That We Know Where We Are\, We Don’t Know That We Know Where We’re Going.” \nThis exhibition of new paintings by the Santa Fe-based artist explores ideas of unknown-knowns; knowledge that we are not consciously aware that we possess. Weiss states\, “I paint familiar people and places as staged\, performative scenes that resist clear narratives. I see my figures as actors on a stage\, performing.” Often\, these scenes resemble a theatrical production transpiring in the deserts of New Mexico. The narratives are open ended\, creating a dialogue between the work and the interpretation of the viewer. Weiss continues\, “I like to think that the figures are positioned between dance\, protest\, and ritual\, attempting to influence social change in their performance. Whether they are successful is something that can’t be answered.” \nGallery hours – Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday from 12pm-6pm.\nOn View 4.17.26-5.29.26 \nJared Weiss\n“Well\, That does Sound Pretty Serious”\nOil on Canvas\n43″ x 63″

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening\, Desert Drift: New Works by Elaine Ritchel
DESCRIPTION:Historic Santa Fe Foundation is pleased to announce Desert Drift\, an exhibition of acrylic and watercolor skyscapes by Santa Fe-based painter\, educator\, and writer Elaine Ritchel. The exhibition will be on view at the Gallery at El Zaguán on Canyon Road. \nExhibition Statement Desert Drift explores ephemerality\, the subtle thresholds between states of being\, and the experience of being held in liminality. The work centers on three elemental subjects—clouds\, the moon\, and the horizon—that embody both continuity and flux. \n“In New Mexico\, the horizon is a constant presence\,” says Ritchel. “I find it fascinating that although we can always see it\, we can never reach it. But in that endless quest\, that perpetual drift\, we are always accompanied by the sky above and the ground below.” \nThis body of work emerged from a deeply personal period of transition for the artist. Through soft layering and loose rendering\, Ritchel captures a sense of “shimmering ether” and shifting light\, allowing her painted clouds to undulate\, breathe\, and dissipate. The result is a series of images that feel soft\, ethereal\, and alive\, inviting viewers to feel immersed and held by the presence of the desert sky. \nAbout the Artist: \nElaine Ritchel is a Santa Fe-based painter\, educator\, and writer. She is currently an artist in residence at El Zaguan. She holds an MA in Art History and has worked as a gallery teacher and guest educator with arts institutions in the US and abroad\, including the UNM Art Museum\, the Blanton Museum of Art\, the New Mexico Museum of Art\, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb. Her arts writing has been published in Southwest Contemporary and New Mexico Magazine. \nContact: Anne Kelly at anne@historicsantafe.org or call 505.983.2567 for more information.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Leah Hardy & Mark Ritchie\, No Man's Land Gallery Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:April 18–May 10\, 2026 \n4870 Agua Fria Street\, Santa Fe\, NM 87507 \nOpening Reception: April 18\, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM\, with music by DJ Pablo 77\nGallery Hours: Flexible Schedule\, call or text Patrick Kikut for appointment\n307-399-5665 \nNo Man’s Land Gallery is pleased to present works by Leah Hardy & Mark Ritchie.\nHardy’s current works are narrative and contemplative in nature\, employing insect-inspired forms which become metaphors for the present human condition. These stories illustrate personal inquiry into social behavior\, ethics\, politics\, and most recently climate concern. Fragmented\, altered with mechanical elements or re-contextualized\, these life forms reference our fascination with mortality and desire with the underlying yearning to connect\, communicate\, and gain insight. These works offer a simple starting point for conversation about our humanity and how to work together to affect change on a local\, national\, and universal level…all beginning with a shared sense of curiosity and wonder. \nRitchie’s most recent works are in drawing\, printmaking\, and artists books. An exploration of wild and domestic plants and animals and a consideration of their position\, and his own\, in Western North America as native\, domestic\, or “naturalized invasive” informs Ritchie’s works. Images are initiated in the field and developed in the studio.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: LAMP group exhibition
DESCRIPTION:LAMP is a group exhibition rooted in practices of accumulation and adornment. Primarily sculptural\, the works span ceramic\, papier-mâché\, textiles\, and found objects—materials that carry the marks of touch\, use\, and return. The exhibition draws inspiration from the fantastical potential of a bookshelf alcove crowded with knickknacks\, and from the push and pull of a warm light bulb: how it reveals the texture of its shade while allowing everything beyond its beam to slip into shadow. LAMP lingers in this tension—between illumination and obscurity\, excess and intimacy—asking what it means to look again at what we already have. At its core\, LAMP is about making a home. Home here is not fixed\, but a space of continual return. Each return brings something new: an object\, a gesture\, a layer. Through acts of adornment\, familiar things are re-seen and re-translated. Function is rendered implicit; materiality\, charm\, and care emerges energetically. Participating artists include Caroline Perkison\, Emma Rossoff\, Gabrielle Constantine\, Jamie Lerman\, Julia Kunze\, and Magdalena Jarkowiec.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: MARK SPENCER | Melting Pot
DESCRIPTION:Melting Pot is a term originated by the British author Isreal Zangwill in his play of the same name to popularize the notion of many cultures blended together to emerge as now only American\, shiny and new; one under a common flag. Now this phrase\, used for decades to describe the macro culture of the U.S.\, is criticized for not valuing diversity\, not recognizing inherent power imbalances. Spencer’s art pushes beyond the limits of many becoming one in this traditional\, even simplified\, sense. Instead\, it suggests the many ARE already one. \n“I was in my late teens when I had the epiphany that all things in this world are connected.” says Spencer. “Our thoughts\, our physical beings\, our gods are all part of the same cosmic fabric.” \nSpencer says human nature is the act of contextualizing one’s life—to make sense and give meaning of one’s time on earth. Nature\, on the other hand\, is all life\, is existence in all its forms. Not that which is alive in the sense of an organic system\, but that which is alive as part of a cosmic system of consciousness. \nThis cosmic consciousness is the melting pot from\, and within\, which this artist draws his forms and dips his brush. The melting pot is the Oneness of it all. We are lucky to be reminded of this truth by those who can show us. Mark Spencer is one of those.

Featuring a total of 147 yards of fabric\, a length nearly one and a half times the height of the Statue of Liberty\, this monographic exhibition is installed in the gallery’s 5\,000 square feet of exhibition space\, weaving a tapestry that records a quarter century of an unsung artist’s singular vision and consuming passion for drawing with the sewn line. \nAlthough once lauded by The New York Times arts writer Grace Glueck for the bravura of her avant-garde sewn work\, Marks has remained largely under the radar. Lucid Perturbations presents to the public\, for the first time\, the broadest survey of the psychological nooks and crevices of Marks’s sewn multiverse in all of its dark humor\, aporia\, and wit.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: In The Eyes by Taylor Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Sourced from her grandmothers’ photo archives and the archive of Film & Television media\, Taylor Thomas questions the influence of external representational systems on the Black family. In her paintings\, Thomas paints the skin of her subjects with chrome paint\, a nod to television static and the ambiguous nature of knowing an “other”. Thomas’ collages explore the relationship between skin and body and interiority and exteriority as she abstracts the faces of members of Black Hollywood along with members of her own family into pixelated squares.
