DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on August 15\, 1-3 pm to meet Photographer\, Dana Patterson Roth and talk about her show: The River Runs Through Me\, Exhibit runs from August 4 – 30. \nThe River Runs Through Me photo encaustics combine photographs\, hot wax\, pigments\, and markings to create a painterly view of the visual world. Dana Patterson Roth has photographed various bodies of water in New Mexico\, seeking to convey the beauty and peace they bring her\, while also recognizing the effects that long term drought is having on them. Even as they dry and shrink there is beauty to be seen and comfort to be felt. \nMeet the artist on August 8 for a demonstration of photo encaustic techniques between 11 am and 1 pm. She will layer hot beeswax and pigments onto a photograph\, building up some areas and scraping away others to emphasize some aspects of the photograph and eliminate others. \nDespite growing up in New Mexico\, she was shaped by water and her mother’s love of swimming. Lakes\, rivers\, ditches or puddles\, New Mexico’s waters defined Dana and found her always swimming\, boating\, playing in or just being soothed by looking at and photographing water. As these waters face an uncertain future\, it feels urgent to honor both the joy they’ve given and the loss we are experiencing. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:Institute of Contemporary Art Santa Fe presents Woven Futures\, Unbound Patterns: Contemporary Diné Weaving\, an exhibition bringing together weavers across generations to foreground weaving as a living\, evolving practice. \nCurated by Venancio Aragón\, with organizational support from Chiara Giovando and Tony Abeyta\, the exhibition approaches weaving as a site of ongoing experimentation and critical engagement. Developed in dialogue with artists\, lenders\, and institutional partners\, the exhibition includes works from renowned contemporary weavers including Irveta Aragón\, Venancio Aragón\, DY Begay\, Theresea Bowman\, Melissa Cody\, Calandra L. Cook\, Dolores W. Grey\, Marlowe Katoney\, Vera Myers\, Mary Lou Schultz\, Steiner Cody\, Tyrrell Tapaha\, and Calvin Toney. Works made by students from the weaving department at Diné College in Tsaile\, Navajo Nation (Diné Bikéyah) will also be displayed alongside loans from the School for Advanced Research and the Tia Collection\, bringing historic and contemporary works into direct conversation\, tracing a lineage across time. \nMoving beyond historical frameworks shaped by trading posts\, static ethnographic framings\, and external narratives\, the exhibition centers weaving as a practice led by the weavers themselves. Diné weaving emerges as an active site of innovation\, where material\, pattern\, and process carry forward complex cultural\, social\, and aesthetic lineages. DESCRIPTION:Sites of Memory (August 7th – September 19th) is a photography exhibition inspired by the 2026 selection for One Book One Denver. Sites of Memory brings together four artists whose work explores how trauma\, history\, and resilience are embedded in place and carried across generations. \nOpening Reception: Friday\, August 7th\, 5-8pm. This event is free and open to the public. \nOne Book One Denver Unveiling Celebration:\nFriday\, August 7\, join the Denver Public Library at its Central Branch—just a five-minute walk from CPAC—for the reveal of the 2026 One Book One Denver selection. Celebrate the power of books to inspire conversation and community as two months of citywide programming begin. Registration is required\, with entry times at 6:30pm or 8pm. \nVirtual Artist Panel Discussion:\nOn Thursday\, August 20th\, at 4 pm MDT\, CPAC Executive Director and Curator Samantha Johnston will lead a virtual panel discussion with exhibiting artists. SUMMARY:Opening: Geometry of Culture
DESCRIPTION:At first glance\, geometry might not seem like a narrative form — but through these artists’ eyes\, shape and color unspool into stories far-reaching and intimate\, from cultural histories to personal lore. Show curator and gallery owner Frank Rose chose artists whose work appears as geometric abstraction\, but upon closer look\, reveals layers of personal\, cultural and historical meaning. From Santa Fe-based Piikani artist Terran Last Gun’s work integrating forms derived from Blackfoot-painted lodges\, hides\, and war shirts to Eastern Band of Cherokee and Santa Clara Pueblo artist Skye Tafoya’s paper weavings manifesting her dual tribal heritages\, cultures\, and lineages\, each artist offers a unique lens through which to explore the show’s theme. \nFor many of the artists\, there is a strong tie to cultural history in the very media they work with. Native Hawaiian artist Lehuauakea is known for their perpetuation of and innovations in kapa (traditional Native Hawaiian barkcloth). Kanaka Maoli/Native Hawaiian artist Ian Kūali’i is also working with kapa\, creating eight hand-cut works that expand on the artist’s transition from milled paper to the use of more sustainable and culturally-relevant materials. The show also welcomes gallery newcomer Nancy Ariza\, whose printmaking draws from her Mexican heritage and family lineage as a descendent of a saddlemaker and piteado artisan — crafts she works to revive\, reclaim\, and reinterpret through traditional and alternative printmaking processes including woodcut\, screenprinting\, and dry pigment screenprinting\, combined with natural pigments. \nTogether\, these artists present distinctive geometries grounded in cultural identity. Their offerings invite viewers to look beyond two-dimensional geometry and explore the layers of beauty\, wisdom\, and history that unfold.

SUMMARY:Daniel McCoy: We Can Only Go Up From Here
DESCRIPTION:McCoy is typically known for his distinctive\, high-energy style\, blending elements of pop art\, cartooning\, and sign painting to illustrate the landscape and culture of Northern New Mexico\, where he now lives and works. While his upcoming show brims with McCoy’s characteristic vibrancy\, it also brings something new: a focus on reflection\, presence\, and inner work. In this body of work\, the artist takes a step back from the high-saturation world of cartooning in favor of a realism that demands attention to the present moment. Having stepped away from his position as exhibitions manager at the Poeh Cultural Center and Museum in Pojoaque\, New Mexico to focus on family life\, the artist now finds himself slowing down and taking the time to appreciate the rhythms of home\, land\, and sky. \nMcCoy’s studio has become a meditative space\, offering an opportunity to turn inwards and practice self-work. The shift in his process has also brought about a foray into cloudscapes\, which\, for McCoy\, encapsulate the theme of reflection. While clouds have previously remained in the background of his paintings\, now they take center stage.

DESCRIPTION:Merge presents “Louise Mirlande” an installation of art recording an ongoing relationship of the artists Natasha Weston and Linda L Chappel. This artistic process formed from working together in dance\, photograph\, painting and mixed media. This show represents a 30+ year dialogue combining our ideas into a collection of art which is expressed in the persona of Louise Mirlande. The artwork and photography is a record of these interactions\, years apart. The artists are led by the assertion of Nahui Olin who saw her herself as an artist and not an artist’s model. Further influence includes a wide breadth of artists from the photography of Julia Margaret Cameron to the performance work of Fluxus and Joseph Beuys. This show opens on First Friday\, August 7\, and continues through the end of August.

DESCRIPTION:“Put A Pin In It”\n8.7.26-8.30.26\nA Pin sits at the intersection of purpose and play. Part adornment\, part fastener\, and so emblematic of the way that humans throughout time have taken useful\, everyday things and made them beautiful as well. \nPins and Brooches existed before many modern clothing fasteners\, and have been unearthed in archeological sites all over the world. Before zippers\, buttons or buckles\, pins were the most common way to hold clothing in place. Because humans have an innate sense of aesthetics\, and we signal meaning through objects\, invariably those pins also contain markers of societal standing\, such as rank\, status\, allegiance and the like. \nThis medium also allows us to say something without saying a word- since that is what personal style is all about. Pins are often overt as they shout out affiliations\, persuasion and a certain kind of belonging. They capture the zeitgeist of a time\, and can easily change with the spirit and weather of the moment. They signify loyalties\, politics\, interests\, protests\, or hobbies\, and show off a little extra about what is important to us\, or even how people should see us. SUMMARY:Opening: Delaney Hoffman\, No Promise is Good Promise
DESCRIPTION:SFNO is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Delaney Hoffman entitled No Promise is Good Promise\, on view from July 24 – August 1. An opening reception will be held on Friday\, July 24 from 6-8:00pm with a performance staged at 7:00pm. \nPulling from a wide array of research interests\, Hoffman constructs objects and images that operate in the interest of the paranoid subject as they seek to expand our definition of what that could mean. Much of biblical prophecy was driven by the imagination\, and the same could be said for contemporary short-form video soothsayers now. While we are culturally driven to dismiss these fantasies when they come from the mouths of others (and ourselves)\, Hoffman asks what would happen if we catered to the paranoid voice? What if we considered it to be useful? What if we took it seriously before the conspiracy unravels itself in front of us? \nThis question is addressed through a variety of material approaches that span steel\, copper\, and silver gelatin. Seductive surface treatments shift with the body of the viewer as holographic powder-coats and glinting enamel engage with light in a way that calls back to Hoffman’s foundational training as a photographer. Many works feature motifs that directly reference invasive and aggressive species found widely on the North American continent\, positing that those who are hard to eradicate alongside their pesky ideologies are a certain kind of trickster\, for better or for worse.

In this series\, the mid-century television set is reimagined as a contemporary altar. Just as traditional New Mexican altar screens have historically provided a window into the divine\, the vintage screen provided a window into a beautifully fabricated mythology. \nAltar-Visions of the West\, New Works by Arthur Lopez opens at King Galleries Santa Fe Spanish Market Weekend\, Friday July 24th with a special reception from 5 to 7P. Lopez will be present for the opening night festivities. King Galleries is located at 130 Lincoln Ave\, just off the historic Santa Fe plaza. \nFor generations\, the global imagination has seen the American West through a cinematic lens—a landscape of Hollywood soundstages\, romanticized archetypes\, and exported myths. This vintage broadcast loop of cowboys and outlaws created a beautiful\, shared story\, but it often drifted above a much deeper\, more tangible cultural reality that has thrived here for centuries. \nIn Altar Visions of the West\, radical regionalist Arthur Lopez tunes out the static of the mythologized frontier to celebrate the enduring\, sacred craftsmanship rooted in the actual earth of the region. In this series\, the mid-century television set is reimagined as a contemporary altar.
