SUMMARY:Opening: Broom Room Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Throughout history\, every culture has gathered fiber together and swept. Brooms\, brushes\, and sweeping are an intimate part of our collective domestic history\, and Julia Tait Dickenson proudly creates her pieces as an extension of that time-honored tradition. \nHer work showcases pieces that are both recognizable in their original form and strikingly transformed into something entirely new. Julia delights in finding discarded objects and discovering innovative ways to create brooms and brushes\, seamlessly incorporating traditional processes with found objects that have been used and feel good in the hand. \nThis exhibition highlights her recent experimentation with abstract ideas\, challenging both her own creativity and traditional confines to create new\, unexpected broom structures. Through this process\, she beautifully captures and preserves the feeling of an object’s original use while breathing new life into it. \nJulia lived in Santa Fe in the late 1980s and ’90s\, making her living as a jeweler\, before returning from Vermont in 2021 as a fiber artist and broom maker under her studio name\, Thinair Goods. We were honored to have Julia as an artist-in-residence here at El Zaguán until 2025. Currently\, her studio is located in the historic downtown Santa Fe area\, where she warmly welcomes visitors. \nThin Air Goods brings beauty and soul into objects intended for everyday use. \nContact: Anne Kelly at anne@historicsantafe.org or call 505.983.2567 for more information.

SUMMARY:Opening: Wearing\, Wearing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Wearing\, Wearing\, guest curated by Felicity Wong – the second of three exhibitions in Union Hall’s 2026 Rough Gems series! \nThe curator and many exhibiting artists will be in attendance. Light refreshments will be provided by Ratio Beerworks. Union Hall is a nonprofit art space and welcomes donations. \nCurated by Felicity Wong\, Wearing\, Wearing features six artists who employ strategies of abstraction\, repurposing\, amalgamation\, and deconstruction to investigate the relationships between clothing and decay. Embedded in histories of racial and colonial capitalism\, the garment industry has not only laid waste to our environments\, but also rendered garment laborers invisible\, dispensable\, and machine-like. Moving away from aspirations towards luxury fashion\, this exhibition asks how mundane\, cheap\, and dying garments can contribute to but also help us navigate landscapes of decay. Artists include Sarah Darlene\, Flora Wilds\, Allison Sheldon\, Allegra Giddings\, Elle Hong\, and Paloma Jimenez. \nThe exhibition will be on view through August 8\, 2026 with open gallery hours Wednesday – Saturday from 12 – 6 pm. Learn more at unionhalldenver.org/rough-gems-wearingwearing. \nCover image: Allison Sheldon\, steeped in calm\, 2019\, silk organza\, chamomile\, thread\, 3 ft. x 3 ft. Photo by Brian Hawkins.

SUMMARY:Hózhó by Maya Perez
DESCRIPTION:Maya Perez received the SURFACE Harwood Art Center Solo Exhibition Award in 2025\, presented annually for artistic excellence\, originality of vision and dedication to practice. This year\, her awarded solo exhibition Hózhó will run concurrently in Harwood’s Front Gallery. \nWe invite you to join us for the SURFACE exhibition reception\, awards presentation and artist talk by Maya Perez at Harwood Art Center\, on Saturday\, June 20. The reception is 4:30pm – 6:30pm\, with awards and artist talks starting at 5:00pm. This event is free and open to all ages. \nOver the past several years\, Maya has dedicated countless hours to learning more about her Navajo culture\, researching stories and traditions\, and studying Diné Bizaad\, the Navajo language. During her research\, she came to understand the concept of Hózhó\, a Navajo way of life that means to “Walk in Beauty\,” striving to live in balance\, harmony\, and beauty. That philosophy is exactly what Maya wanted this exhibition to be built upon. \nMaya Perez is the creator of Skinny Legend Creations\, named in honor of her dog and best companion\, Zeus. As a contemporary visual artist\, Maya is known for her distinctive “pop art” female portraits and intricate geometric mandala designs. Drawing inspiration from her Navajo and multiracial background\, as well as her personal journey\, Maya’s work explores the emotional depth of the human experience and the pursuit of balance. She primarily works with acrylics\, using bold\, vibrant color combinations to bring her visions to life. She also recently started to explore her love for ceramics\, creating quality pottery pieces customized with her mandala designs.

SUMMARY:Opening: Taylor Anton White: Static Believes in You
DESCRIPTION:K Contemporary is pleased to present Static Believes in You\, a solo exhibition by Taylor Anton White\, opening Saturday\, June 20th\, 2026 at K Contemporary’s Santa Fe gallery\, located at 203 Canyon Road\, Santa Fe\, New Mexico. \nMarking the artist’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery in Santa Fe\, Static Believes in You explores the unstable terrain between memory\, perception\, and constructed reality. Through layered compositions that oscillate between figuration and abstraction\, White creates works that feel at once deeply personal and culturally fragmented—like signals interrupted\, distorted\, and reassembled. \nWhite’s paintings operate in a space where intimacy and noise coexist. Gestural marks\, fractured imagery\, and shifting visual rhythms evoke the experience of navigating an increasingly mediated world\, where emotion\, identity\, and meaning are constantly filtered through screens\, static\, and repetition. At the same time\, the works maintain an undeniable physicality\, emphasizing material presence and the hand of the artist. \nRather than offering fixed narratives\, Static Believes in You invites viewers into a psychological landscape shaped by tension\, vulnerability\, humor\, and ambiguity. The exhibition’s title suggests both reassurance and disorientation—an unsettling optimism that mirrors the contradictions embedded within contemporary life. \nSituated within K Contemporary’s expanding Santa Fe program on Canyon Road\, the exhibition continues the gallery’s commitment to presenting artists whose practices challenge conventional boundaries between image\, material\, and meaning while engaging broader cultural conversations. \nStatic Believes in You\, opens to the public on Saturday\, June 20\, 2026\, from 4–6 PM MST\, at K Contemporary\, located at 203 Canyon Road\, Santa Fe\, NM. The artist will be in attendance.

SUMMARY:Opening: Second Thought
DESCRIPTION:Second Thought is a solo exhibition by Albuquerque-based jeweler and metalsmith Will McConnell of Platoro Jewelry Studio\, whose work explores transformation\, craftsmanship\, and the beauty of imperfection. \nThe exhibition emerged from an unexpected moment in Will’s studio. After a project failed to go as planned\, frustration led him to melt the silver into a pool of molten metal that eventually cooled into an irregular form. The discarded piece sat untouched for years before he revisited it in early 2025. What began as another act of frustration\, taking a hammer to the silver blob\, became the catalyst for a new creative direction and distinct body of work. \nWith more than twenty years of silversmithing experience\, McConnell draws inspiration from both New Mexico’s landscapes and the intersection of natural and human-made forms. His work reflects s fascination with contrast: organic textures alongside intentional design\, refinement emerging from raw material\, and beauty discovered through process. \nJoin us for the Opening Reception on Thursday\, June 18th from 5-8pm at Lapis Room\, and experience a collection that reimagines what is discarded\, honoring the flaws and imperfections that make each piece unique. The show remains on view through July 19th.

SUMMARY:Opening: Than PI: New Paintings by Mateo Romero
DESCRIPTION:Cara Romero Gallery\, located in the heart of downtown Santa Fe across from Vladem Contemporary\, kicks off the Santa Fe Summer Season with Than Pi\, a new exhibition of paintings by Mateo Romero\, on Thursday\, June 18\, with an opening reception from 5–8 p.m. \nThe exhibition includes 12 new paintings\, including five large-scale canvases. Romero’s heavily impastoed landscapes of Northern New Mexico and Pueblo scenes have earned him broad recognition over the course of his career. \n“I am deeply honored to invite you to a special exhibition at Cara Romero Gallery + Studio\, Says Cara\, — a solo presentation of new large-scale paintings by Mateo Romero\, one of the most significant and distinctive landscape painters working in the American Southwest today.” \nThe exhibition presents five monumental oil paintings—high-keyed\, richly textured\, and unmistakably his own—depicting landscapes sacred to the Puebloan people of New Mexico. Rooted in a deep painterly lineage as well as his life as an artist from Cochiti Pueblo\, Romero’s technique renders light and land with a presence felt as much as it is seen. Than Pi is the Tewa word for sunrise. \n“As Native people\, we are born into this world with an expectation that we will be participatory in life and contribute to society\,” says Romero. “What I have contributed most directly to life are my children and my art. Painting and drawing for me have always been urgent\, compelling\, and necessary. I make marks out of a need to communicate\, to contextualize\, to form meaning in the world around me.”

SUMMARY:Opening: Tiago Almeida: Memories of the Past That Hug Me in a Nest
DESCRIPTION:Institute of Contemporary Art Santa Fe presents Memories of the Past That Hug Me in a Nest\, a solo exhibition by Tiago Almeida\, on view June 14 through July 26\, 2026. \nA documentary filmmaker\, artist\, activist\, and initiate of Candomblé\, an Afro-Brazilian spiritual tradition\, Tiago Almeida’s work traces enduring African traditions in Brazil\, exploring Black sovereignty and the historical continuities that shape the present. \nIn Memories of the Past That Hug Me in a Nest\, Almeida brings together installation\, photography\, and documentary film to engage the intertwined histories of the coffee plantations of the Vale do Café and the forced displacement and labor of enslaved Africans. The exhibition examines how Candomblé has carried African cosmologies forward through community\, ceremony\, and systems of knowledge\, while tracing the ongoing suppression of African-matrix practices. \nRather than approaching these histories as fixed or resolved\, Almeida considers how spiritual and ancestral frameworks fold time\, keeping past and present in active relation. His work examines how knowledge persists under conditions of erasure\, moving through forms that are at once visible and withheld. \nOngoing public engagement extends these inquiries through workshops and gatherings led by Almeida and conversations with invited guests\, including activations of the installation (feeding the exhibition) and a workshop titled Against the Chaos. The installation moves between the formal conditions of ritual and art. Visitors are invited to stand at a threshold to witness and learn\, while remaining aware of the limits of their own access.

SUMMARY:Opening: Hand Upon the Land
DESCRIPTION:RULE Gallery is pleased to present Hand Upon the Land\, a group exhibition at RULE Marfa bringing together works by Nathan Abels\, Evan Anderman\, Joseph Coniff\, Jason DeMarte\, Amy Hoagland\, Martha Hughes\, Eun Mi Lam\, and Liz Potter. The exhibition opens Saturday\, June 13\, with a reception from 6–8 pm\, and remains on view through August 1. \nThe show considers landscape not as a distant view but as something shaped by cultivation\, memory\, and patterns of use. Moving between observation and intervention\, the works trace how land is translated through systems of seeing\, acts of care\, material preservation\, and human impulse. Rather than presenting landscape as scenery\, the exhibition considers place as a record of contact and a site of ongoing relationship.

SUMMARY:Opening: Joan Fenicle\, Painter: In the Spirit of Haiku
DESCRIPTION:Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas invites the public to a reception on June 13\, 1-3 to pm meet Painter\, Joan Fenicle and talk about her show: In the Spirit of Haiku\, Exhibit runs from June 2-28. \nThe haiku in this exhibit are created in oil paint not words. Inspired by Joan’s decades of wandering the caminos and callejones of New Mexico and Colorado\, they are expressions of memorable personal experiences. \nJoan grew up a free-range child in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where her mother and grandmother had been born in the high mountain mining camps. She has called New Mexico home since the 1970s. She loves wandering back roads\, capturing villages and vistas in pixels and paint – always looking for the stories. An ancient tree\, a village chapel\, an old truck\, abandoned buildings or just a dramatic cloud formation catch her eye and become part of the image collection that holds negatives\, slides and digital images. Bits and pieces of various images may end up in the final painting. \n“A haiku is created from two ingredients: an experience and the expression of that experience in words after it has passed through the poet’s heart.” (from Haiku: A Poet’s Guide by Lee Gurga.) \nThe First Sunday ARTScrawl on June 7 will include a meet the artist segment 11 am to 1 pm as Joan shares some of the stories behind these paintings\, both discoveries and favorite places that have been revisited many times. \nWild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective\, supported by 14 local artists. Located at 221-B State Highway 165\, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm.\, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm. SUMMARY:Opening reception: Lindsay Iliff: Re/membering
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the opening reception for Lindsay Iliff’s solo exhibition\, ‘Re/membering’\nopening reception 6/12 from 5-7PM\nexhibition continues through 7/11 (closed 7/4) \n“Through my work I choose to Re/member: connecting fragments of what has been lost-honoring and drawing strength from our living planet.” – Lindsay Iliff \nLindsay Iliff’s work provides a ground for the artist and the viewer to reclaim our vital kinship with all that lives. The apparent loss of this essential relationship on a cultural level creates deep suffering in the culture(s) that loses sight of this truth. Iliff’s clay sculptures\, informed by the ancient landscape of New Mexico\, and by her attraction to ancient plant species and stupas\, remind us of the gift of our extensive community. \nImage: Lindsay Iliff\, Far Side of the Moon\, 2024\, ceramic\, 12.5 x 17 x10.5 in.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: 2666 Project
DESCRIPTION:The 2666 Project is a series of paintings made directly onto the pages of a physical paperback copy of Roberto Bolaño’s novel 2666. The book\, unfinished at the time of the author’s death\, is sprawling\, fragmented\, and deeply haunting. It moves through overlapping narratives of violence\, obsession\, academia\, and art\, which\, for me\, left behind a powerful sense of foreboding—hinting at something deeply troubling within our global economic policies and its impact on marginalized cultures. \nI have painted over every odd-numbered page\, for a total of 457 pages/paintings. My intention was not to create “illustrations” that directly match the narrative\, but to make work based on the impressions and emotional imprint the book left me with. By painting on every odd-numbered page of the book\, transforming the physical copy of the book into a continuous sequence and complete visual object. \nThe goal isn’t to explain or interpret 2666\, but to remain with the feeling it left behind. My intent is to create a standalone work layered onto a preexisting one—a transformation of a mass-produced object into something that stands on its own.

SUMMARY:Opening: Horizon (i am within a vast structure in my dreams)
DESCRIPTION:HORIZON (i am within a vast structure in my dreams) is a three-part performance\, workshop series\, temporary reading room\, and micro-radio. The series is divided into three themes: \nthread (what is coming is more than what is gone)\nbody (thousands of militants in the streets)\nhome (there are trees in the future) \nHORIZON will feature artists who work in audio-visual poetics including: concrete poetry\, signage\, asemic writing\, collage\, video art\, scores and composition\, sound\, and performance. This series focuses on poets\, performers\, and organizers who treat language as a material infrastructure and the letter as a sculptural element meant to be shaped or sounded out – considering words not only for what they convey\, but also their shape on a page\, wall\, or public space. Each performance will be partnered with a workshop that will employ text as a visual form. \nInspired by mobile and fugitive libraries\, HORIZON will also be a reading room and space of study that will be open to the public on Saturdays and Mondays in July and August. \nFriday June 5th\, 6:30pm at Alpaca\nmasks required and provided at all programming \nFirst Horizon poetry performance featuring: \n~ mónica teresa ortiz (Lubbock\, TX)\n~ Mia Kang (Philadelphia\, PA)\n~ alma valdez garcia (Los Angeles / NM)\n~ imogen smith (Los Angeles\, CA) \nJuly and August programming to be announced.

SUMMARY:2026 Youth Art Exhibition: Sacred Reflections & Pieces of the Whole
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of socially-engaged artwork created by students of our Youth Art Mentoring and EPIC Arts programs\, exploring identity\, agency\, and advocacy. \nThe exhibition themes Sacred Reflections (Youth Art Mentoring students) and Pieces of the Whole (EPIC Arts students) center identity\, voice\, and collective belonging. \nThese themes invite young artists to explore what matters most to them\, individually and together\, while recognizing their power to shape their communities. \nAt a time when many feel pressured to shrink or conceal parts of who they are\, this work insists on the opposite: to know oneself fully and to be seen. \nThrough reflection and creation\, students are encouraged to embrace their identities\, honor their intersections\, and stand rooted in self-awareness. \nThis knowing becomes a form of power; one that fosters pride\, builds connection\, and quietly resists erasure. In doing so\, the exhibition calls us to recognize and appreciate the uniqueness each person brings\, and the many ways we choose to express and represent who we are.
