The Language of Art – A Seminar

March 30, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm

Join a small group of art lovers to unlock deeper meaning in art during this six-week, online seminar.

If you’ve ever wondered how exactly to look at a work of art, or how to get more out of visiting museums and galleries, you’re not alone! Looking at art isn’t a single, momentary action. It’s a practice, a process, and a skill that anyone can learn and enjoy.

This is a relaxed, conversational course led by Elaine Ritchel, founder of Santa Fe Art Tours. Drawing from art historical scholarship, effective methods for art analysis, and over a decade of teaching art appreciation in museums and galleries, Elaine will break down the language of art and share how to look, what to look for, and how to understand what you’re seeing. Each week, we’ll cover a different theme:

Week 1: The Elements of Art & The Power of Noticing
Week 2: Composition & The Principles of Design
Week 3: Technique & Style
Week 4: The Artist’s Message
Week 5: Art & Personal Response
Week 6: Reflections

This course is designed for anyone who wants to understand and engage with art more deeply. No background in art or art history is necessary. If you do have an arts background, this course is also for you! It’s especially great if you want to think more deeply about art in the company of others.

The class begins on March 30. Sessions take place every Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:45 pm MT.

Just a few more spots are available. Register soon to reserve your spot!
