The Complex Cultural Meanings of Moral Eating

Michaela DeSoucey discusses the moral arguments and politics of food production and promotion and how they intertwine with social identities, cultural context, and class inequalities. Dr. DeSoucey’s sociological perspective on moral eating offers a critical examination of the power and complexity of meaning-making about food. Michaela DeSoucey is an Associate Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Sociology Graduate Program at North Carolina State University.

Co-Presented with the School for Advanced Research and the New Mexico History Museum as part of SAR’s fall Humanities Festival
