Terran Last Gun Opening
May 31 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
“I often reflect on Blackfoot history when beginning a new project and how this ancient people viewed and interpreted the world around them in such simple and bold geometric forms.” Indeed, Terran Last Gun’s most recent series of prints draws inspiration from his ancestral history mixed with pop art, minimalism, color field, and geometric abstraction.
Born in Browning, Montana, Last Gun received his AS from Blackfeet Community College in 2011, and his BFA in Museum Studies and AFA in Studio Arts from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2016. He is a recipient of the Santa Fe Art Institute, 2018 Story Maps Fellowship, and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, 2016 Goodman Aspiring Artist Fellowship.
The artist is best known for his bold geometric works on paper, which often explore the interaction between color, form, and memory, all while reflecting Blackfoot visual aesthetics and philosophy. One might say that Last Gun is a landscape artist. “I continue to explore color, form, composition, and memory when creating visual narratives. Growing up near the Backbone of the World (Rocky Mountains) front of Montana, to now residing near the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico, I am continually inspired by these landscapes.”
Last Gun primarily works with printmaking and the technique of serigraphy, to produce fine art limited edition prints. “I am currently working with serigraph editions, along with diptych paintings, all while contemplating Pre-American landscapes and Blackfoot narratives.”
Terran Last Gun’s self-titled exhibition will open Friday, May 31, 6-8pm and will be on view through June 22.
