Talk/Demo: Encaustics with Ellen Koment and Karine Swenson

To honor the life and art of Ellen Koment, Aurelia Gallery is delighted to extend this invitation to an interview and encaustics demonstration with artist Ellen Koment and hostess and artist Karine Swenson.

Ellen’s work as an artist and art educator spans nearly five decades, and Aurelia Gallery is proud to celebrate her achievements with a retrospective of her work, running through March 9th, 2025. This unique art talk and interview will cover her life history and how her art was influenced by the places she lived and grew up in, where she studied and worked, and the seminal events in her life.

After the interview, Karine Swenson will also give a short demonstration on painting with encaustic paint.

Aurelia Gallery is proud to announce both Ellen Koment and Karine Swenson have been selected to be part of the New City of Ladies show at Turner Carroll Gallery. This exhibit is sponsored by The New Mexico Women in the Arts organization and Turner Carrol (March 2025).

As a teacher, Ellen has shared her knowledge of art and painting with thousands of students, including Karine. Throughout several encaustics classes and helping Ellen conduct encaustics workshops, Ellen and Karine became good friends. The interview will emphasize the importance of mentorship and teaching in the arts.
