Ruth Asawa (1926-2013), first generation Japanese-American artist and educator, faced multiple challenges throughout her life, yet refused to see herself as a victim, moving forward by staying true to her ideas and her vision. Asawa is best known for her hanging wire sculptures, sculpted wire trees, and for her multiple public works projects in California.
Join local artist Leslie Toombs in celebrating Women’s History Month with a talk about the incredible Ruth Asawa and a demonstration of her wire looping technique used to create her sculptural masterpieces.
The event, held at The Mad Hatter Gallery, will be held March 14, 5:00-6:00pm and is free and open to the public.
The Mad Hatter Gallery is located at 221 N. Main, St., Las Cruces, NM.
