Congo Crafted: Histories of Making, 1880s–1980s
Dr. Sarah Van Beurden is one of the School for Advanced Research’s 2023-2024 Weatherhead Fellows. She is an Associate Professor, of African-American and African Studies at Ohio State University.
Dr. Van Beurden will explore the lives and afterlives of three disappeared and forgotten colonial craft genres in Congo: ivory carving, Congolese lace-making, and Christian arts.
