Rough Gems Presents: Digital Download — A Workshop with Denver Digerati

July 9, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

In this workshop, you’ll build the skills needed to successfully propose, install, and troubleshoot digital content for exhibitions.

Free and open to the public! Please register through Eventbrite.

Digital Download is an in-depth discussion and workshop with Ivar Zeile and Sharifa Moore from Denver Digerati centered on how to think about digital motion art in the context of exhibitions and new opportunities in an expanded contemporary landscape that is well outside the norm. This workshop will cover a variety of topics including best practices for artist and curatorial proposals, installation angles on equipment and troubleshooting tech, and opportunities to support artists in achieving innovative exhibitions of their work.

Come prepared with questions, topics of conversation, and points of discussion. This is the space to dig into all-things digital art! You will be provided with takeaway materials and practical handouts.

Denver Digerati is a Denver-based nonprofit that produces the Supernova Digital Animation Festival, and is comprised of specialists in digital motion art and animation.

Ivar Zeile—Denver Digerati Founder and Artistic Director

Ivar is an arts leader and artistic director across an array of art and design based interests, with a prominent reputation rooted in innovation. Ivar founded Denver Digerati in 2013 as an entity specializing in digital motion art applications for LED screens and other forms of display as a dynamic form of public art. Through the Supernova Digital Animation Festival, established in 2016, he has cultivated a singular worldwide network of leading artists in an annual forum focused exclusively on digital animation and motion-based art. Prior to these initiatives, he ran Plus Gallery as one of the most prestigious and celebrated contemporary art programs in Denver, Colorado. Ivar has worked independently in film, including a decade on staff with the Sundance Film Festival, and maintains an ongoing studio practice centered around a wide variety of design-related projects. His devotion to the integration of tech with art developed as a result of his tenure as Creative Director for the Denver Theatre District, launched in 2009 with the initiation of permanent LED displays in downtown Denver.

Sharifa Moore—Denver Digerati Executive Director and Associate Curator

Sharifa is a curator, interdisciplinary artist, and educator. Her current roles include serving as the executive director and associate curator at Denver Digerati, and as a board member of Tilt West, where she is the co-managing editor and co-curator of the Tilt West Journal. Previously Sharifa was the chief curator of art and education at the Center for the Arts Evergreen and associate curator at the Emmanuel and Next Stage Galleries on the CU Denver campus. She holds a BA in Art History and a BFA in Photography from the University of Colorado Denver, and is finishing her Masters in visual studies with an emphasis on experimental film.

Building off of our annual curatorial program, Rough Gems, Union Hall will support even more emerging curators and artists in the Denver area, through a free monthly series, which will explore real-life, vital skill sets often not taught in the classroom. For the artist who loves to bring friends together in DIY spaces, the aspiring curator dreaming of their own commercial gallery, or the arts patron with big ideas for an exhibition, pop-up, or interdisciplinary event. These workshops will help you build the necessary know-how to make those dreams a reality!

Each workshop will be 100% FREE and open to the public—with opportunities to be instructed by a range of cultural leaders in the Denver community and network with other emerging artists, curators, and creatives in a relaxed environment.
